driver's side mirror

I'm looking to replace the side mirror on my Giulia and notice there's alot of different options out there. I would like to keep things as stock as possible, with the mirror located on the door rather than the fender. What are my options? It looks like reoriginals has some nice ones, yet I still don't know if they're correct.

Thanks
Nick

'63 ~ '65 Giulia Spiders should have the trapezoidal type mirror, I think.

well, that narrows it down a bit....below are a couple links. the reorignals has a triangle base whereas the centerline has a straight/rectangle base. Also, the centerline one has an alfa logo on it....hmmm.

I've always heard tht the mirrors were dealer installed and anything that is period correct is arguably correct. My '65 has Talbot mirrors on the fenders. Not recommending that. Just noting that there seems to be a lot of variety out there.

My car came with the Re-originals version, so that's what I used. It seems the Centerline version shares the base with the round mirror found on 105s, but with a trapezoidal mirror tacked on - I've never seen this combination before.

I guess there aren't holes already drilled on your door for a mirror?

The mirror should look like this.....
unless you like something different ;^)
Seriously, many mirrors are the right vintage. Just choose one that you like.

Any outside rear view mirrors on Giulietta/Giulia Spiders were dealer installed. For lots of money. So anything that is period correct and you like, will work. Many used a Lucas round mirror. Or Talbot. I personally think the trapezoid style is too new to be correct. I don't remember seeing them in the early 60's.

Well......
This car had this mirror on her when I bought in 1977, 23k miles and had no other holes in the door.
Figure that a lot of these were sold much later than '64-'65 as they sat on the lots. Mine was first registered in '66, so we're talking mid '60s.

If you want a period correct mirror you can purchase a NEW left or right Lucas mirror from Moss Morors. The were Dealer installed. There are many Lucas parts on our cars.

MossMotors.com - Restoration Parts And Accessories For British Cars

You want the 'B' repro Lucas #223-310, and in addition order #165-307 if you want it to say Lucas. Nice quality chrome.

I have one on my Veloce.

Cheers,

George

I like the looks of the reoriginals mirror and the lucas. The trapezoid from Centerline is a bit strange with the 105 series base. It still looks nice, just not for me. I'm leaning towards the Lucas. The good thing about living in Santa Barbara is I can just cruise down to Moss Motors and pick it right up Good thinking, George.

Mirrors, mirrors, mirrors...

Lots of options! I posted some photos of mirrors and Alfas with mirrors on my web site. It really is a personal decision. I lean toward the Talbot because my original Veloce had one.

Good Luck!

My "original" mirrors

Rezzaghi Motors equipped my first Spider with flat black finish torpedo-style mirrors, one in the top middle of each fender, when I bought that car in late 1964. I guess Charlie liked them, and they seemed OK at the time, But my current car has the round ones that mount on the doors near the wind vent. But I hear those are actually for a 105, and I should have trapezoids. I think round looks better on the car, though.

Talbot mounting

Yes and yes. There is a gasket under the base and the mirror is secured by a U-bolt going through fender or door, through the gasket, through the base, and secured with lock washers and nuts inside the body of the mirror. The space between the holes in the gasket (the larger ones) is 1.25 inches.

I got mine from www.alfacybersite.com. No connection with seller.
