Here are my web albums. Look for the ALFA pictures! The others are good too, though...

Finished rebuilding the Bosch distributor. All in all, the insides weren't as bad as the rusty oustide let on. I only had a problem setting the (?)rotor plate(?) on the advance weights with the spring clip and return springs. All cleaned, painted, and put back together with no screws left over ;-) One step closer. I put an ad on freecycle for a good, working battery.
I told you there is a way to do this WITHOUT a budget!!!
Pictures to follow.
Any hints on my trunk floor?

Trunk Floor
I can give you a hint on the trunk floor: don't get one from Wolf Steel. Everyone I know that has ordered one has either sent it back or spent at least the purchase price again in labor to straighten it out. It bugs me that people who have never ordered anything from Wolf Steel so freely recommend buying from them when their products just don't measure up.
Try Bill Gillham's method if you are on a tight budget. I had mine made by well known professional metal worker. It cost me dearly, but it is made right. There are details on www.alfamagic.shutterfly.com.

Am I going to have to change my throttle linkage to use the Solex on the Giulia Normale 1600? The car originally had the Weber DCO3s. As far as I know, the car has the original Veloce throttle linkages, bellcrank, etc... Anybody with an Abnormale have an answer or pictures?

If you are using a Solex and need the correct pieces I will trade you for the dco3 pieces.

Hi Dan
Remaking a boot floor is not nearly as difficult as it seems, the floor pattern is identical to a Normale in terms of the ridges and shape, the only 'extra' bit is the ridge for the vent tube on the Veloce tank.
I have the same issue with my Confortevole, I intend making several boot floors using a combination of hammer-forming & bead rolling & then re-using the original vent tube ridge from my Veloce after a few repairs.
First things first, I'm currently busy with repairs to Dad's '60 Sprint which that needs a few patches in the boot. I can do these with the bead roller, but will need to hammer-form anything bigger as the bead roller's reach / depth is only about two feet.
Ciao

Lionel,
Can you supply me with pictures of what you have (the Normale version) and what you need (the Veloce version)? I just want to make sure that what is on the car right now is either correct (Veloce for DCO3s) or incorrect (Abnormale for Solex)!
Thanks

My dad says that he drove the car with the Solex carb, so it must have the right linkages. One more thing down...
I need detailed photos of a Solex 32PAIA5 carb. Top, bottom, left, right, front, back. I labeled where all the jets go, but not where all the nuts and bolts go! OOPS!
GTD, any help here?
PM me for an email address if you are willing to help. Thanks in advance everyone.

Exterior rust
Not much has been happening lately, but I am lining up future plans for the outside. When the car was stored, this passenger side quarter panel was up against some galvanized tin siding. I am looking for a product that will stop any future rusting. There is some pitting, but no pinholes (other than the trunk floor area).
I have heard of POR-15 in the Datsun community. I have read about Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator, and I know of several commercially available products from big-box stores. Which product do the people that have been at this point recommend?
What about priming it after treating the rust?
Don't forget, I am only looking for something to stop the spread of the rust. I am not worried about show-car, or even driver, finish here!

On the Solex carburetor, does anyone know which screw holds the small aluminum model tag that says "101.12?" The four screws that hold the venturi housing (?) to the carb body?

Carb pics
Here are some before and after pics.
Notice the rat's nest in the venturis on the before pics. That is just typical of what I'm finding in every nook and cranny of the car!
The after pics show what it looks like now. Ready to go on the test contraption.
A QUESTION FOLLOWS:
What material is the gasket between the intake manifold and the carb base? Cork, paper, rubber?

Mine had a hard phenolic plastic spacer, with paper gaskets either side. The gaskets will come in a rebuild kit, which you will almost certainly need as your accelerator pump diaphragm is probably going to be shot. I somehow lost the spacer (2 house moves and 12,000 miles during restoration does not help) and ended up making one from some cork.

My dad found an old business car (you never know when it might come in handy!) from his time in Boston with the Army.
Alfisti for a long time, huh?
A STATEMENT AND QUESTION FOLLOW:
We are planning on using an old riding lawn mower gas tank as part of our test stand for the engine.
Does the coil need any cleaning or attention inside or outside? I don't really thing you're supposed to fiddle around on the inside, right? I just want as many things in the starting loop to be ready to work for a test run!
Any more bits of advice before starting a car that has been stored for a LOOOONNNNGGGG time? Just starting in the garage, no driving.

Can anyone give me a good photo of the inside of the trunk lid? I am looking at where the outer "skin" meets the large flanged portion.

Or could anyone point me in the right direction of a good original or restored car? Just working on what I've got in the barn here, and have a restoration shop lined up for some minor (?!) work.
