Help identifying block and head

Did a little horse trading this weekend, swapped a 1750 engine I did not need to someone who did need it for his '69 GTV. In return I got a nice block with a crank and front cover as well as a fully prepped cylinder head.

Block serial is AR 00526/A S265A+ OK, I know some will say that that "S" is an "8" but I calls 'em as I sees 'em. To me this suggests that the block is a Giulia Super? Maybe '68-'69. Anyone have any ideas? the odd thing is it seems to have a box in a circle casting that suggested to me that it was a 2L. Not having extra pistons or liners I could not verify. Front cover has a spin on oil filter and a bolt on fuel pump.

Cylinder head definitely has a box in a circle casting, I'm thinking 2L, but would be happy with 1600. 105 cams, oil drains at the back and the intakes are not relieved for injection. Have not tried to mate them together.

Anyone????

00526 is a 1600 Giulia Super block, and I think your year guess is in the ballpark. Look in the Fusi PDFs in the History section, though not sure he covers 00526A blocks.

Head casting designs are shown on the IAP tech info page. 1750 or 2000 will have big holes for the head studs; 1600 are smaller. If Spica heads, they'll have long intake studs.

Hi Ian

I'm with Andrew here, 00526 is a 1600cc Giulia Sedan engine, circa end 60's / early '70's. I had a motor with the number 00526*ASH186, I never could date it 100% but ballpark said around '72 in my case.

Moot point as car & motor are long gone & the proceeds were used to build half my garage.

Ciao
Greig

The info I have shows that the 00526 engine fitted to the Giulia Super first appeared with the letter 'A' suffix in 1969. The letter 'S' that prefixes the sequential serial means that this is a non-polluting engine (but not necessarily an 'EmCon' [Emission Control] engine which differ from the non-polluting engines only by using emcon carbs). Non-polluting engines have different cam and ignition timing settings than the non S engines. The first fitment of both an A and an S 00526 engine is the 1974 Nuova Super.

Well, that helps some. I've attached a couple photos. Spin on oil filter, bolt on fuel pump mounts immediately below the distributor.

A box in a circle indicates that the cyl head is for a 1600 cc engine.
Spin off oil filters was introduced on the then new 2000 cc engines in 1971, probably the other engine types got spin off filters soon after.
