What is the current price range for a 1964 Giulia?

Would someone be kind enough to give me the current 1-5 price range on a 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia?

SCM price guide or just your best current market estimation would be much appreciated. TIA, David

Good Giulietta Normale--about US$ 25k

Seen Giulietta Veloce recently at ~ $45k

Don't know about 64 Giulia Super Spiders.

Pertaining to '64 Giulia Spider Normale, my ideas on "reasonable" market pricing:

Complete but non-running/needing restoration: $10-$15K
Driver that needs some work: $20K
Good driver: $25K
Show queen: $35K
If Veloce, add an extra $10-$20K, at times MORE!

The above seem to more or less mesh with Subtle's figures in the previous post; hopefully we're both close to actual market conditions.

Thanks for the replies and advice. There is one I have my eyes on, but is not yet for sale. Maybe soon, so am looking to get educated,

The two gentlemen quoting are well informed but IMO quite high in today's market. "Seen" and asking prices do not make a market. In today's market a good solid 1600 Normale that needs NOTHING and has all the receipts and some patina that would make a nice parade car and pull 88-92 points in a concours would be hard pressed to make $25,000 and more likely around $20,000. $30000 is out of the question even at 98 points.

The market is under extreme pressure now. Even Manheim Gold Book is out of touch. For EXCELLENT values, they show a '57 Spider Veloce at $43.000. A very nice '59 750 just sold for $33,000 in the US Midwest through a broker. They also show a '57 Spider N at $35000 of the same condition. No way are these cars only $8000 apart at the high number. More likely 33 v. 25. They show a '57 Sprint N at $18000 which is way too low. So as one can see the market is topsy turvy.

So you have a wide range. You need to narrow that range. The best advice I can give is A. When you look at the car try not to drool in front of the seller. That automatically drives the price up or makes the seller less open to negotiations B. Take at least one more set of eyes with you who knows these cars and is somewhat familiar with the market. I have someone in mind in Birmingham. PM me. C. Ask for comps --How did he establish his price?
and these should be no older than 6 months old and only include SALES.
D. Do your homework. Be ready with your comps and in today's market I would hire an appraisal service. It would be money well spent and might save you thousands of dollars that you might not only save in the buy price but also in fixes. An antique auto insurance company like Haggerty or JC Taylor should help you find the right appraisal service.

I know everyone thinks these cars should draw more money but the truth be told is in the real numbers. I own 3 of them and have had many more and don't really care what they are worth. Good or bad markets..they're just cars that have a current value and as always BUYER BEWARE.

A one-owner 65 that needs full restoration just sold on ebay for $25K :

Alfa Romeo : Spider:eBay Motors (item 260426259157 end time Jun-16-09 22:36:50 PDT)

Probably not the norm.

And in late breaking news, an original owner barn find (unrestored but complete and original) '65 Giulia Veloce Spider sold yesterday on e-bay for a little over $25k. Would easily need more than $10k to look nice and drive around, though.

With respect to the Veloce that sold on E-bay, that was informative news but not pertinent to the question of the value of a Normale in Alabama. We are talking REAL apples and oranges. For one thing there is a Pininfarina hardtop arguably worth $5,000 to $10,000 and secondly there were only two bidders over $20,000. We all know when two bidders get involved and each has a trigger finger the winner usually went over the top of where he expected to be. I'd evaluate this buy as a $7000 premium for the top and a decent buy at $18000 if he doen't have to ship it too far. This is in line with where I see the market for a Giulia V project.

In the case of 750s and 101s, the price difference between a Normale and Veloce can be huge, especially for unmolested cars.

I never cared for the word "unmolested" in the context of cars vs children but the latest Spider to hit e-bay takes the definition to a new height. Bamaman, don't use this one as a comp unless you are comparing it to a box of graham crackers or toasted pita bread. The only thing missing is "it's a "black plate" car from California" but it looks more like a corral watering trough from a ranch in Texas. Yes, it is unmolested, alright. Nature did the molesting on this dandy resto project (???).

I watch a 1964 sell today in Birmingham at auction for 17k plus 10% buyers fee.

It was a decent driver with tired paint, little bondo, fair interior, and no rust that I could notice with a pretty good get on my back under the car inspection. The trunk floor looked newer. Other floors were original and solid.

The car seemed to run ok, but you really onlyr hear it run when cold and for a few minutes.

The top and interior were about a 7. The tires looked good.

I bid it to 13k. I put it at a 4 plus/3 minus car.

Here is a link to the auctions website: Worldwide Auctioneers
