working in the steering idler

Hi , today I was working in the steering idler, I gess it all goes back many years ago with careless maintenance/wider tires, I noticed some change in the sharp handling ,I think now why would anybody want the wider tires choice in this cars? turning the steering wheel with the car not moving with wider tires is heavy in all this components.
While reesting with your forearms in the fender looking down to the steering idler your knees can touch the sides of the tire, pushing alternatively with each knee you can see for some small play in the idler , I didnt had much and wanted to do the easy way, take only the triangle and replace the bushings and left the shaft atached to the terminals, but! the nut only turned , the treads were damaged in some past , and the few treads left on top didnt let it come out, so I took off the whole thing and cut the nut off, a friend in the machine shop were I work made me the bushings , I only replaced the bottom one since the top was ok,fixed the upper treads and now I have to make some spiral channel for the grease and asemble early morning,

Regards

Daniel

Thanks Greig, hopefully it would be nice to have a nice work place, I have another place apart from the apartament where most pictures are taken in front, but still not a nice workshop, here I post another picture with data I took when it was apart (taken at the worst points), the bushing is the bottom one.
