Floor vinyl question
Hi all,
I am about to put in the rubber mats and the carpets but am a little bit lost on how (and where) to place the floor vinyl. I just ordered three meters from ReOriginals but am clueless on how and where to install. Can anyone perhaps help me with some good pictures?
Thanks in advance

Hi Jorg,
Are you discussing the rubber mats themselves, or the OEM sound deadening (ha!) underneath the mats? Let us know.

Gordon,
You raise another question, in which places is the sound deadening installed (beyond every rubber mat?)?
My first question actually concerned the vinyl for the floor, for example under the seats? But perhaps also for the place on which the sparetire clamp is attached to (don't know how to call it )

George thanks,
is the vinyl the red pieces or the black pieces? Is the red piece on the position of the sparetire clamp originally there?

Red, the black in my photos is insulation. Yes the spare tire clamp "mount" is covered as shown.

George's photo's of the red cloth backed "vinyl" is very accurate. In reality, Alfa did not do as nice a job as with George's car. His is quite special. I will post some photos of the two types of sound / heat deadening material Alfa used this evening. One type was used under the rubber mat in the spare tire area, another under the rubber mats in the foot well area. My sample car is a un-restored example.

George/Gordon,
you guys are great! So if I am correct the only 2 places, the vinyl is originally installed, is on the thingy behind the seats (on which the sparetire clamp is mounted and of which I still don't know how it's called and beyond the seats until approximately the forward mounts of the seats?
great to know, Gordon looking forward to your pics.
It goes without saying that I will post the pics of the finished result.

Vinyl & insulation photo's
Hi Jorg,
Here are some pictures. The first two are the spare area. Note the rubber mat has a little Alfa glue on the corner, and underneath is a sound / heat drape, like the one under the hood. The insulation is glued to the body with more Alfa glue .
Next is the foot well, passenger side. The compressed insulation there is very firmly glued to the floor. The edge of the vinyl from under the seat appears to have the front edge glued underneath. The transmission hump is visible here, and in the last picture. It too is covered with the compressed jute like material, firmly glued down (Alfa used LOTS of GLUE! )The very front has a piece of grey open cell foam rubber glued over the top. All this is under the carpeted section. If you will send me your E-Mail address in a PM, I can send you directly as many photos and descriptions as you wish. This seems to be a resource I can offer to BB members. My car is a 1965 Spider Veloce, owned from new. It is a good example for correct restorations.

Very, very, very helpfull
Gordon can you perhaps confirm my statement concerning the vinyl only being installed in two places (clamp mount thing and under seats?).
The firewall has the same kind of insulation as the rear does, right? Rest of pics is very clear I can work with that
btw: I passed the inspection this week, so I will be getting my plates early next week Finally some real driving can be done Can't wait

Gordon,
what is the use of the snapper (?) on the spareclampmount? What can you attach to it?
Not the vinyl, not the rubbermat...so...

Uhh....... Gordon you appear to be missing something in the middle of the tranny tunnel, or is that the 1600 Veloce ashtray ??
What's up, or is the AUSCA drivetrain 2 corners ahead of the body ??

Morelisse,
The snap on the vertical panel just below the spare tire area is for fastening the lower edge of the black "drape" that covers the spare tire area. There should be one rectangular tab on each side of the lower edge of the drape, which snaps onto the male snap on the vertical panel (to keep the drape from flapping around in the wind).

Jorg,
There is the same kind of gray insulation on the vertical panel (trunk firewall) in the spare tire area. But the insulation of the firewall of the engine compartment is completely different. That insulation is flat black vinyl with fiberglass insulation on the back. It is held in place with snaps along the upper edge, and some of the "Alfa glue". The upper half of this black insulation pad is visible above the rubber Alfa floor mats.
