March 1958 "Road and Track"

This is probably old news, but this issue of R & T tests the Giulietta Spider Veloce. They loved it!

Also, an ad...

Make it available?

If R & T doesn't object, of course, it might be nice to have that article in an easy-to-print (and see) pdf file.

Under John Bond's guidance at the time, R&T was a very savvy magazine.

As reasonable as the prices sound today, they were expensive cars. In '58 you could get a VW for under a thousand dollars. TR3s went for around $2000 New Chevy Impala convertibles were under $3000.

I have all of the old road & track Alfa reprints. What's interesting is that loyal owners complained loudly that the road test wasn't done correctly, and the Veloce was much faster. R&T did a second road test, and the car was much faster.

People forget, or don't know, how the Giulietta was so superior to the popular British cars of the day. Regarding prices; I traded my Giulietta Veloce Spider for $1000 to buy a used Giulia Veloce Spider for $3300 in 1966. Geez... I sure wish I had either of these today. Also, a tale that has followed me for years: A co-worker, seeing my yellow Giulia in place of the black Giulietta, asked if I had my car painted. Upon hearing I had paid $3300 for the "new" Alfa, he told me "My god son, you could have bought a Buick for that money"
