PininFarina Hardtop

This top is very rough and needs full restoration. It has significant rust at the bottom edge. It appears that all the trim and hardware is there.

It is offered to me at $1,000 and my guestimate for the restoration effort will be at least $3,000.

Is it worth it ? I doubt to ever find one in good condition, unless sold with a car.
Would it fit on any year Giulietta / Giulia Spider ? Mine is a '63.
Did this top originally come with plexiglass ?

Seems reasonable..$3000 seems real high.. window was plastic and cheap to make. Your car is a 101, make sure the top is not for a 750 which won't fit your car but is 10 x rarer = BUY IT!

Hi Dirk, I have a 63 101 spyder that came with a factory medal hardtop. I understand that there were a couple of different style's. Mine looks different from yours. The top section of the one I have has what looks like two dummy vents pressed into the top that you can see from the rear. looking at you picture you have the smooth surface one. there should be two brackets under the rear glass to attach to the trunk hinges. These are adjustable on mine. all the best John Gallo I would buy it if I were you.

These were always a scarce item. Moreover there were 750's, 101 Giuliettas, early and late 101 Giulia tops as well. They were picked from PF to either fit a particular car and sold with that car, or bought separately were expected to be "fitted". Not necessarily a simple job. Those in average, restorable condition, correct for a particular car bring $500/1200. Restoration and fitting to a car can be about any price. 750's and late '65 101 Giulia's are the real hard to find ones.
This one pictured is a late '65 on my Ausca Giulia Spider. This top has not been restored, but was fitted to the car.

Dirk,One like this recently sold locally(Georgia)for $500.,without the plexi window, but with no rust. There's one in very good condition for sale now in the Giuliettaletta for 750U.K.,(appx. $1100-$1200 ?)so,in my opinion,I think yours is at a fair price.Although I'm looking for a plastic hardtop(Plastic Dynamics)for my 61',I'd be interested in this one if you decide to pass on it.Best Regards,Phil

Well I finally picked up that hard top.
Lots of work to be done but Gordon's photograph is very inspiring.
Advise regarding the restoration would be appreciated.
Thanks.

A nice winters project Dirk! Start by carefully removing everything. Photograph everything. Use automotive ammonia based paint stripper, resisting glass beading as it further hardens the work hardened (hammered) surfaces. You will be amazed at what is under the paint! Contact Tony at Alfa Stop for new rubber. Only use the best chrome shop you can find / afford. When the top is BARE metal, temporarily fit the new rubber, and attempt to fit the top to the car. That will be the moment you will need a real good body man, or one that has fitted a PF top before, to either an Alfa or Ferrari. I hope this helps. Keep us informed!
