Anyone have a picture of this car from before it was repainted? I've seen one on the BB but can't seem to find it.

In this market I'd say that the price is a more than a bit over the top, even if it is about the best one out there. Hard to justify a $50k jump over the last couple monthes. GJ

Although it seems to be a beautiful car but for the purists not entirely orginal any more the price is increasing all the time. It was advertised by Morris & Welford some time ago.
It can now also be found on ::: Vintage Auto Posters ::: under Ferrari & Italian marques as well as Classic Driver - HOME.
By comparison my lightweight for sale at 70.000 Euros seems very reasonable.
It can be found at Garage Steutel, Almkerk , click "english" at top of website. My apologies for taking this opportunity.

What about the Fantasy Junction car is not original? Not that I'm disagreeing with you, or suggesting that it is worth $225,000, but I failed to spot the non-original bits - other than that it comes with the original gearbox in a box (see the last picture), which might suggest that a 5-speed is installed. Oh, and the seatbelts obviously weren't installed at Arese.

I'm surprised that no one's snapped it up yet, GTA2; I simply love those orange racing stripes.

Allfajay, not original? Well for start it has a 1400 cc engine. I am not knocking the car because it looks great and has fantastic provenance. It seems the car had a lot of work done to it even though it has only covered about 20.000 miles. The car was apparently ordered with extra non "lightweight" bits such as glovebox cover, cigar lighter, chrome bumpers, extra carpets, covered dash. Nevertheless it is beautiful . The price I find ambitious.

I'm not a Lightweight expert, but for me to shell out that kind of money; I do expect the underside to be as clean as the top side. The underside quite frankly, is a mess, lots of dirt, crud and surface rust, not withstanding the overspray.
Agree with Matt, the repaint just doesn't do it for me, I do see a few short cuts in the respray, the most obvious is the underside covered in blue overspray, the LHS top hinge has raw steel showing in the centre of the hinge, the RHS is painted - to my eye those look like new bolts, rather then newly plated originals - I may be wrong.
There is also a rubber trim strip missing on the body, above the locking mechanism, up to the underside of the B pillar in the door aperture, on my cars the aluminium holding strip is not painted, but shiny aluminium.
The flexible cardboard tube from the heater / fan blower to the dash vents is missing & there is overspray on the throttle pedal.
I'd hazard a guess the original wheels were Fergats - for some reason there exists a misconception that Veloce's were equipped with Borrani’s and Normale's with Fergats - in reality most of the Factory pictures of Lightweights show them on Fergat wheels, ditto the Factory pictures of the '58 SV Confortevole.
The ignition wires should be green Cavis type & the cable tie is an obvious 'fault'
To me, it looks like the RHS inner wing behind the carbs has taken a beating in the past - I would have thought this would have been cleaned up a bit more in prior to the new paint.
The air filter paint is tatty, although I'd guess that it is the original paint, ditto with the brake fluid canister. it is my understanding that the Veloce Air Plenum should be raw aluminium, with two wing nuts holding the top down - although I do have pictures of an unrestored light yellow Swiss Lightweight, as found with a black painted plenum & 2 ordinary nuts holding the top down..........
The small hose joining the inlet manifold to the tapered top tube should have at least had the twin red stripes turned to face the motor - that's just being picky I suppose. I seem to recall that there was a special type of hose clamp here as well - not near my parts book right now.
The Data plates look like repro's - the number stamping is not quite right, two different font '3' and '4'; '5'; '7' & '9' stamps have been used.......
Interesting the way the aluminium dash trim strips fold around & into the oval instrument pod - never seen this on any other 750 before, I presume it was to hold the "special order" vinyl on the dash top & instrument pod in place ??
The exhaust is a replacement item, the large Abarth silencer is missing - Alfastop sell fantastic stainless steel reproductions of these systems. Nice period battery switch fitted in front of the passenger seat. The seatbelt anchors through the floorboards are ugly & I'm not quite sure what the 2 holes in the underside of the passenger floorboards were for ??
The alloy trim strips on the side look just like the ones on my 750B's - the Lightweight Veloce's had a much lighter different shaped section made from thin alloy sheet, rather then the cast items used on the Normale's and later 750E's
At this price, she surely deserves to be on Pirelli Cinturato’s or Michelin X's, rather than Vredesteins - again my personal opinion.
All that said and done, it's still a lovely car & if it were within my means, I'd have it, but that mucky underside would have to go. This is a special car, with a special history & to me it deserves more than just being tarted up for profit upon profit.
My 0.02 Lira's worth anyway
Ciao

Come, come now Greig! Don't give us a quick once-over on this nearly quarter million dollar prize!
Give it a thorough looking over and identify the miniscule faults that keep it from being truly desirable.

For that kind of asking price the underside of the car and all the components under there should really have been gone through.

Yup...and it's been around with a For Sale sign on it for awhile. Luv the car, but for that price I'd be looking at a SZ, for Pete's sake.
Or, buy the GTAJ on Ebay, and have enuf left over to fill your backyard with tasty cars- a Flaminia, a 2600, etc.
However, FJ does tend to pull top prices. They recently sold a SZ in 3+ shape for BIG bucks, as I recall.

So we're agreeable that an LW is not worth anywhere close to an SZ? What would be a fair price for a "good" LW, in everyone's opinion, in THIS market?

I have to ask, since I was just on the track - at speed - with an original SZ on Monday. How much does a nice, track ready SZ go for these days?
