Hi all,
I'm new to this bb and forum but couldn't resist responding on this thread since I've spent some time investigating carburretor options on my 62 Giulia Spider. I've measured the clearance between the air inlet box on the carb and the underside of the bonnet (hood) by the simple method of building a column of Blutak on top of the air box and then squashing it down with the hood until closed. On my car without a hood pad the clearance is 30mm but it will of course vary from car to car. The Weber 28/36 DCD or 36 DCD, when fitted with Tony's adaptor, is exactly 30mm higher than to the top of the oval inlet on the standard Solex 32 PIAI, so it is not surprising that it makes a mark in the hood pad on 101/105guy's car!
The DGV that Jon is trying to fit is lower than the DCD so long as the air inlet fits around the choke stacks on top of the DGV rather than on top of it. I saw a 1600 Spider at Silverstone this year fitted with a DGV where the oval connection on the bottom of the air inlet box had been replaced with a very neat piece of sheet metal work which fitted snugly around the profile of the choke stacks. This solved all the clearance problems.
Another solution?
