Decal

Hmmm, we have more in common than we thought..........

I seem to recall the decal on the box of my '64 Guilia Sprint GT (g.d.) being yellow too

Ciao

Hi 65 Giulia,
Check out http://www.redlineoil.com/whitePaper/13.pdf
This is what I'd use in your situation, regardless of the synchros, you might have.

Elio

Here are some pictures of some earlier non-moly synchro parts compared to later Moly parts. I could not find an example of a Non-moly Sleeve but I think they did not have a groove on either side.

Note that the moly sleeves from the late 60's and early 70's, at lease, have a goove on one side only.

I have a later trans from a GTV 2000 that has no grooves on the either side of the synchro sleeve.

So I think Alfa placed these grooves to differenciate the parts at the time of introduction of the the moly type transmissions.

FWIW

Regards

Ken

Ken,

Two years ago you posted a pdf of a tech bulletin concerning moly v non-moly transmission oils. Apparently that pdf is no longer available on the alfa bb--at least it doesn't come up for me. Could you send it to me, if you could find it?

Thanks,

Jeffrey Frey

What a fortuitous thread. I have this exact question re my new 61 101 Spider Veloce. Its trans was rebuilt several times, last in the 80s, but I don't know what synchros were used. I have both Dentax and modern oils.

Ken, the attached images above of the synchro surface aren't showing up for me. Are they still posted?

So:
grooves on both sides=pre-Moly, use Dentax
smooth looking but rough feeling surface=moly, use Spirax or modern EP

Not sure how much I'm going to be able to tell by peering in through the filler or drain holes.

Andrew
