newbie & 61 giulietta spider barn find

Hello all,
Yes, after looking & lusting after many an Alfa I've finaly taken the plunge. 1961 Giulietta Spider Normale. This thing has had two owners, the second since 1963. Parked in a barn around 1980 & not moved since, apparently with just under 24,000 miles ligged. Seems authentic based on the condition of the vehicle. Virtually no rust. The rockers need work as does the trunk floor, but that is it. Very, very dirty but 100% complete car minus the convertible top.
I've had her home for about a week & a half and have started the long road back to a really nice Spider. I've stripped the interior & all of the exterior trim. The car was resprayed somewhere along the line as there is some overspray. So, I plan to do a proper paint job once the minimal rust is repaired. I plan to strip everything and am currently preparing to pull the drivetrain. Yesterday I dropped the fuel tank, which seemed to have about three gallons of varnish in it! Seriously, this stuff no longer beared any resemblance to gasoline. I guess it is a good thing I did not hook up a battery and try to start her.
Everywhere I look I am more amazed by the lack of rust and the coolness of this car. So far it is a joy to work on, except for the multitude of frozen bolts. I am currently struggling with the driveshaft...
I've puchased a CARDISK for the Giulietta with the shop manual & all of the other stuff that comes with it. Seemed like a worthwhile $50.00!
Anyway, I am hoping to find lots of help here, so thanks for listening and wish me luck.
Richard

Congrats and it surely sounds like a great find. Please post some pictures of the find and your restore.

There's no doubt you will find help here; but, if no one has mentioned it there's also the helpful 750-101 group on yahoo.

I'm in the process of restoring a '63. One thing that I wished I'd done during tear-down was to match each part I take off with its counterpart in the Parts book. This would've allowed me to better keep track of important parts, and have an easier time putting everything back on. Be sure to get the Parts book (Centerline sells it) to go with your shop manual. I also have Cardisc, but I find it a hassle to have to run to the computer when I need to reference something.

Good luck, and post lots of pics.
