As previously stated, both of the Giulia engines, 4 & 6 cylinder petrol variants currently available for sale in the USA, use timing chains. The 4 cyl locates the chain in the front of the engine, whereas the 6 cyl locates the chain at the rear of the engine. The 6 cylinder engine uses the valve covers as the upper camshaft bearing. This means that to replace the valve cover gaskets, you must remove the timing chain covers and release the chain tension on the camshafts. To perform this service the engine must be removed from the chassis. Ouch.
