'65 GTA RHD Potential Restoration

My family owns an unrestored '65 GTA RHD - Stradale - Red. Am I correct in that, if it is a RHD '65 GTA, it is a rare car? My dad (deceased) baught it new in 1967 from Autosport Inc., which was near or in proximity to the Cincinnati area or Northern Kentucky, I think. Alfa restorers I have spoken to in the past say they remember when the actual car was at that dealership. I am contemplating restoring it. I restored had my father's '65 Austin Healy 3000 Mk 3 in 2001 and am just now seeing the actual sellable value approach what I have in it. I am wondering if I should do the same with the GTA. Any and all feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated.

First off, welcome to the AlfaBB. Is your GTA operational? As far as restoring your GTA, it might look better, but it might be worth more to someone as it is in its present condition. With a restoration of a car of this caliber, some of its originality might be destroyed in the process.

Also, we like pictures. Do you have some to post?

Hi Healey. Proceed with care. Lots of "sharks" in these waters. The car has a very good value to it. Contact Richard or Max at Alfaholics.com Your car has much more value in England then here. Richard and Max can give you good advise.

If its what you say it is its worth a lot of money, do not restore. Max at Alfaholics will tell you all about it.

A RHD car will be worth more in the UK. Get a second and third opinion from other reputable UK specialists too. Also speak to Classic Alfa Romeo Parts & Spares Worldwide - Bertone, Spider & More and Alfa sales specialist John Williams in the UK.

What do you want to do with it? are you looking to restore it to race/drive it? or are you looking to restore it to sell it, (& make money out of it) If you are looking to make money out from the car the best thing is not to touch it and sell it as-is... probably in pounds because the $ isn't really worth too much these days..

The car was started by a potential buyer 20 years ago, but not since.

Being aluminium and rare, it's future value is very much tied up in it's condition and how well it is restored. The advice above is very sound - get an expert involved. Richard Banks would be a very good start.

I am working on getting pictures. Haven't had time to get to the car as it is in storage. The only images I have are of manuals and such.

SN is AR752647. I remember taking very exciting rides (sometimes airborn) with my dad. Also know it had clear plastic windows which have now turned very crackeled. We have replacement glass windows that were purchased by my dad in the '70s.

BTW- I love Healey's especially the early 100/4's. My dad had one after the Army, which he bought from a service man whose wife made him sell it due to a baby. We actully saw the same actual car my dad owned at a a Concours event. We offered to buy it on the spot but at the time he did not want to sell it.
