198 makes perfect sense to me.

We built a 4 plug engine and got about 180 at 6.5K and while it was a bit fluffy below 3K, that was probably tuning as much as anything and it was otherwise great on road and track (not that I'd want to drive it in traffic regularly!).

With the better ports, valves and pistons of the TS engine, the extra power seems quite reasonable. I'd be surprised if 220 wasn't out of the question for a big lift high revving engine.

I have seen several 220/230 Hp TS engines, but these were built for Race Cars and different purpuse.

Taking a 220 Hp TS engine to the market for customer cars and road application is absolutely stunning and unique imo. There aren't many companies who have the balls and experience to do so.

Graphs

Hi,

check formula GT - Sportwagenservice München, i remember having found some diagrams for those engines on the site. Formula GT and Alfaholics have a kind of partnership.

TS site

Thanks for the cool link, what a great site!
I dont understand german but I think I found a torque graph for a TS Formula GT Referenzen

and another TS hp graph it looks like Formula GT Referenzen

They mention building a TS engine anywhere from 185 to 245hp! Yes, please!

I have a twinspark related question. I'm building a GTam replica, and I'd like to have it FIA homologated. I have plans to get a 155 TS head on it, is it possible to get it homologated with this head?

You might also look at what Murray (MSIERT) has done with his 2 L Nord engine - dual VVT, mapped injection, lots of other goodies; 200+ HP at modest rpm. A well mapped injection is night and day from the old GTA race engines with Webers that needed 8000+ rpm to get to top end, and were barely drivable under 4000 rpm.

I know, I tune and rebuild engines for a living. But driveability isn't mainly what I'm looking for, it's a FIA homologation that I need, and I don't think a motec or something like that will get me this homologation.

Hello Tussegaaas,

A twinspark cilinder head in a GTAm replica? Don't think that will earn you a FIA homologation and/or a Historic Technical Passport (see the picture). But may be I am wrong!
Check the booklet 'Alfa Romeo GTA, Schede di omologazione e quote do controllo' as published by Giorgio Nada Editore in 2009, ISBN 978-88-7911-491-2. It contains copies of the homologation papers of the GTA, GTA 1300 Junior, GTA-SA and GTAm. And of course lot's of knowledge on this forum.

Ciao, Olaf

Olaf thanks for the tip, I'll check this out. reason why I asked is because I've read group 2 homologation for '71 (I think), and these regulations say that everything of cylinderhead is free as long as you keep the original amount of valves, and this can be done also, if you get it homologated. (like the 16v heads they used)

Fia will not homelogat you any part, the car will only get homologated if it complies with the org homologatation papers.

16V was never homologated for the Gtam so you will not be allowed to run it in Fia group 2 races, nor will it allow any use of modern technology like injection computers.
