GTA engine block number

Can anyone tell me the part number that should be stamped in a GTA engine block? Any characteristics to look for?

Also, is it possible to run a standard single plug head on a GTA block? And a standard front cover?

00532 or 00502/A for a regular 1600 GTA

Yes. Yes.
Gee, this message bounced back for being too short

Try again

Does anyone have an idea of the value of such an item?

A block is a far cry from a full engine--a full GTA engine would have: twin plug head, special front cover, twin plug distributor, magnesium oil pan.

Are the crankshaft and rods special GTA items as well? Does anyone know how to identify them if they are?

The only thing that distinguishes a GTA block from a 1600 block is the number stamped on it. Otherwise they are identical. Such a block would only be of interest to an owner of a GTA.

If you are in the Los Angeles area and are being offered GTA engine parts, beware that these may belong to Mike Kinney's engine that was.........

.....STOLEN last year.

The regular 1600 GTA crank has a different parts #, as compared to a normal 1600 crank, but I am not sure how to identify it. There is an endurance racing crank for the GTA - on that the counterweights look much darker in color. It is nitrided and much harder than a regular crank and if you try to drill and tap the oil galleys you need extremly high quality tools to do the job. There is also supposed to be a fully counterweighted version of the 1600 GTA crank but I have never seen one in person.

Rods are the regular 1600 HD item as installed on all the later 1600 engines. Some GTA engines, usually Autodelta or other tuner prepped have specially prepped rods, eg balanced, shot blasted, debeamed, polished, special solid small end bushings, thrust faces prepped for extra oiling (which may cost horsepower).

I thought the same thing when I read this thread. Be careful who you buy from Doug.

Mike Kinney

Don't mean to turn this into a CSI Alfa BB thread but I'm curious to hear more about what has happened to Mike and or his GTA which in the past I have done some work on. He used to keep his stuff next to my shop when I was in H.B. but then moved it all to a hangar at the L.Bch. airport right @ the time I moved up here.
