GTA steering box internals

We are rebuilding my GTA steering box to fix a leak. According to Scott Gray this is the recirculating ball version of the GTA/GTV steering box that was an upgrade from the earlier worm and roller version. Alfa changed to this version circa 1965. I thought some of you might like to see the internals.

Bob,

There was a useful photo posted on the BB a day or two ago that showed how to replace the bottom O-ring with a standard rubber seal. All that was needed was to bore out the recess in the box casting to 40mm, and it looked like a worthwhile modification.

Alex.

check out OKP Parts & Engineering GmbH, München, Ihr zuverlässiger Händler für Alfa Romeo und Ferrari Ersatzteile in totally new steering houses for these Burmans.
I have already fitted two to customers cars. They are strenghtened, and aircraft grade aluminium. Far stronger.
Also , it isn't an 'upgrade'. Alfa continued to use the ZF worm and roller thru the years. There are even 3rd series Spiders with ZF houses.
Whichever was fitted, is, I believe, just what the factory happened to have in stock on that particular day.
GTA's have been around with both types as well.
