Springs

I'm in the process of replacing the rear springs and shocks on my 72 GT 1600 Jr. About six years ago I bought a set of old new stock springs from a guy who informed me that these springs will fit all 105/115 cars. Last night I had a better look at them and based on previous discussions on the BB, they look a little shorter than the original springs. They are gold in colour and are 35 cm long and 11 cm across. The springs have 12 turns made of 1.4 cm wire with 1.9 cm space between the turns. The only number stamped on the springs is " 8 85".

Can anyone tell me if these might be sport springs because as I said, they don't look like an OEM spring.

Depends on what type of wire but 1.4cm is quite thick for a rear spring. I've measured one of our standard rear springs and it's more like 44cm long (free length) and the wire is more like 1.2cm thick so it sounds like what you have there is some sort of sport spring. Don't know of any spring makers who use gold paint though!

May as well bang them in the car just to see what happens, it doesn't take long.

My guess from the dimensions you've given is that you'll have a very tall rear end afterwards.
