Excuse my ignorance... But can anyone explain me the "TZ-B" and "TOM ZAT" designations?

I suppose the "TZ-B" designation is refering to some Alfa TZ spec gearbox right? What about the "TOM ZAT"?

Tom Zat is a long time Alfa Geek in the Midwest of the US. He ran everything from GTVs to his own "updated" SS fiberglass bodied car with a GTV6 drivetrain. Even ICE Raced with much success. During the 80's and early 90s he built a lot of race products. One was the "short ratio" box. I consider this a "medium box" as you can see by the gear ratios versus the TZ-B box the TZ-B is much closer in 3-4-5 for a good power band motor. So, the Tom Zat box welded up a different 4th (Final) gear from the stock 23 Main, 30 Counter to a 22 main, 31 counter which reset all the other gears as "closer" ratios than a "stock box". In the same season, I found about a 4 second a lap improvement moving from stock to the Tom Zat box and then another 2 seconds better with the old Bruce Bagley box (just a bit less than the TZ-B gears). Sad news is niether is building boxes any more. Plus the new truly "close ratio" gears are getting into the several thousand dollar range - just for the gears. There is also the Schwitters box which has Hewland inner gears - Heard they are great, but I've never had one. Hope that helps. Ward.
