8 x 14 Campagnolo GTA wheels
Hello,
the different style of the 7 x 14 mag wheel was subject to another thread, but what are the specialists of you knowing about the history and different
versions of the 8 x 14 campagnolo wheel. We know that they were used on the 1600 and 1300 GTA as well (past 1965, right?). I have heard/read that those wheel were not produced in the numbers like the 7 x 14. And i also feel to remember that someone said that they were only used by Autodelta loyal racing teams and that most of them were destroyed by factory order - but that could also be one of the many rumors about our fetish cars. I havent seen some till last week, but now i have 5 wheels in my shelf (think they feel back home in the mag department ). One is a little bit different from the inside casting (no "campagnolo" on an extra suface). My wheels seem to be used very seldom, still thin original paint and original Campagnolo sticker. No dents, touches or obviosly cracks. Of course they will work only in the front without wide fenders.
Would be nice to find one or three more (there is a GTA waiting to be shoed), so if you have some that you like to get rid of......
Will make some pictures today.

Hi Christian,
Yes I know about these wheels, they were used mainly for 1300, but probably also 1600 - never 'official' and only with Autodelta or very close friends of Autodelta (including a Belgian race team whose name excapes me now). They were definately all ordered by the factory to be crushed after use, but some excaped this. I have only come across them still existing twice more before you Christian. Best of luck finding one - I can only imagine it would be virtually impossible to find a wheel/willing seller!

Believe I saw a picture of a GTA-SA with those on.
Interesting the story about them supposed to be crushed - no size markings on the casting unlike other Campys - I guess they were never homologated and the cheater wheels had to disappear?

VDS racing team maybe ?
I know a few sets of these wheels but I also think it will be very difficult to find someone
who is willing to sell his wheels

Christian,
By any chance are you part of the Bovensiepen/Alpina BMW specialist family? I bought parts for my 2002 back in the Seventies from Alpina.

I picked up 3 of these about 8 years ago while parts hunting in Italy. The seller told me they came off a GTA-SA. I've never seen another set until now. They fit well on GTA's with the rear wheel arches.

gtam
i bought a 1750 engine from a guy (mr. alberto fretes) in canada 5 yrs. ago. he mentioned that their family owns this gtam in paraguay. he also sent me a bunch of other pics. of his family and friend's gta's and other exotic cars. unfortunately, i deleted the emails by mistake.
the rear wheels look real but the fronts look like they are regular steel wheels which were just "expanded."

8 x 14 Campy
Max,
Allegerita shows the car of Nico Chiotakis (1300 GTA) with the 8 x 14. He was member of the Dutch National Alfa Romeo Racing Team. Maybe they played with the 8 x 14 before they produched the 13 inch wheel
Alegerita,
my wheels have the size markingks (8 K x 14) stamped in.
The wheels were bought about 15 to 20 years ago from Belgium
David,
this is the most asked question in my short "life" as a racing team leader.
The founder of Alpina, Burkhard Bovensiepen, is my uncle. What he achieved with Alpina is more than great, but that were other times. To do what he did nowadays is another story. The outstanding thing for me is that this all worked with holding the family together. I know many people with names in GTA-circles with crashed family lifes - its not worth it. Other than that i am doing my own thing with Alfina.
Anthony,
do you still have those 3 wheels?
Benji,
for me there are differences (wheelbaed and missing hubcover) in the wheels on the GTAm and the ones i have. But in my mind that are identical wheels allaround. Would be intresting to know if that are 9 x 14.
La strega nera,
this car is the only GR.5 Alfa Romeo (Alfetta GT Turbo) that raced in the DRM (Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft) against cars like BMW 320 Turbo, Ford Zakspeed Turbo, Lancia Montecarlo Turbo and so on. This is a car for the Alfetta section, although it has GTA doorhandles, 1300 GTA 16 V head and other tricky stuff that few have ever seen. But i doubt this is intresting for us GTA lovers. Or do you want to see Alfas with 12,5 x 19 back wheels?

It'd be great if you could post some pics of it over in the Alfetta forum!

Christian, I might have a set of the original small aluminium rear arches that go with these wheels for sale. Original autodelta. (pics in Allegerita)
I don't really want to sell, but since I only have the 7x14's, I might perhaps trade for some other interesting GTA parts for my GTA rep...
I can be mailed at rikz@casema.nl

Christian,
why don't you investigate having some of the 8" wheels cast up?
Regards
