I was intrigued when I first saw this gearbox. What is it? So with each new post hoping for an answer, I would look at the box and it became more and more of a mystery (as I was trying to see it as normal Alfa splitcase 5 speed). How does it work? Hmmmm. So after staring at the thing for 30 minutes, it would appear that this box is a 5 speed with no direct drive and no reverse. If correct, it's like no Alfa gearbox I've heard of.
classic-alfa,
What, and where, are these gear locking shafts?

Oh, my theory is based on the gears being in the locations pictured. Also note the lack of a syncro and dog teeth on the input gear. To me, this would rule out a direct drive box.

Is this maybe a 4-speed Giulietta box converted to 5-speed by replacing reverse with fifth and moving things around?

Papajam
You are right about gear locations
Alfar7
You are right with new values:
1.95
1.40
1.13
.94
.814
I am posting pictures of gear locking shafts (iyou can see simple modification) and posting also picture of shaft with gears...this will show that it's not stock shaft and gears are not from stock Alfa gear box...for me it's very clever idea ...you can play with ratios-having stock of gears...lol

Hey Classic Alfa.
Nice gearbox.
Looks like gear ratios can be changed.
I dont see a reverse gear thou.
Would not be able to be used in Australian racing cars cause it has to have an operable reverse gear.
Whatever, and whoever made that box,it looks expensive to make now,and whould have cost a lot of money when it was available.

Other idea........
Hi Rafal !
Your gearbox could be the first example of a hewland conversion I ever saw in 29 years working on GTA´s
I remember it was 1979 or 1980, someone offered me a gearbox with a set of Hewland gears in it, and he told me that it should be easy to change gears because of all gears changeable on the secondary shaft (Vorgelegewelle in German).
May be that this is such a conversion..
Has anyone further information about Hewland gear sets in Alfa housings?
Its no Colotti gearbox.
Are you still racing with some nice 7mm Valves????..........
regards,Dieter

Does anyone know where I can purchase ONLY the following gear- 1st gear(2.540), 2nd(1.700) and 3rd gear(1.260 ratios) other than having to purchase the whole set like the one Alfaholics sells?

Dieter, I don't think this is one of his boxes, but Steve Schwitters (Illinois, USA) makes Alfa boxes with Hewland internals. They have come in 3 types, one has all 5 gears changeable. One has 5th gear direct. And the last has 4th gear direct. More of these transmissions are used in cars other than Alfas. They are somewhat popular in SCCA GTL class. My brother has one in his SCCA G-Production Giulietta.
Steve also makes a really nice Alfa synchro box for our cars by mixing and matching Alfa gears. It ends up with 1.99 / 1.47 / 1.17 / 1.00 / .085 ratios.

Hello,
I found an answer about my gearbox: it's coming from Formula 3 made by Raynard...that why has no rear gear. Reynard was equiped with GTA engine so it was easy to use in a GTA. This gear box was made by Colotti.
