just bought a copy...
.. of the book GTA by Tabucchi, ed. Nada.
Cool, lots of pictures, good info, palmares etc.
Expensive though...
Still, it was a must have, in my collection.

You think that book is expensive...
Try buying a copy of Alleggerita by Tony Adriaensens. I once put a copy up on ebay while I was on vacation and when I got back it had sold for over $1500 which seemed crazy at the time. Then shortly later, another copy I had, sold for $4000! I kept my last 2 personal unopened copies but lately I'm thinking about trying the waters again and seeing how much it will fetch this holiday season.

A while back (before prices went nuts) some guy from a book store offered me over a dozen of the Alleggerita books for about 125.00 each because he couldn't move them. Not knowing what I know now I passed on them.

Revised Alleggerita book
On December 3 (13 threads below) gta776126 advised us that an updated version of Alleggerita is being prepared. While it may be over a year before the new version gets printed, I would wait for it rather than pay exorbitant prices for it. If I badly needed it, then I would pay up to $500 for a copy that are offered in the collectibles for sale section.
The GTA by Tabucchi is a very useful book, but IMHO does not compare with Alleggerita.

Hi Seinista!
Congratulations!!! Nice book, isn't it!
I am curious as to what the price was.
I didn't find a reference up to now!
Speak to you later! Ciao, Olaf Roeten

I have ordered the new version through Amazon and the last e-mail was that it would be shipped in January?

as a true alfaholic, I posess Allegerita as well, which I purchased new in 1992 or thereabouts.
I collect 'special'books about the Bertone models, classic books on racing etc.
This was one of the few I didn't yet have.
It has always been an expensive book, more so when it was new and I was a little less , shall we say, solvent...
I paid 175 euro's for it.
My copy of Allegerita was less than 100 euro's back then...

Regarding the new version, I have not seen any reference to it on the Corsa Research site as yet?

Yep! For some reason, certain people think that just because an updated version or a reprint would be made available that the value of the original copies would go down. That would be like saying just because one could make a GTA from a GTV that GTAs would decrease in value, this is so not the case. These books like the GTA they are about are collectables and their value is not even remotely based on the information inside them. Heck, if you wanted the info inside them, I'm sure you could have someone on here scan it for you but if you want to own 1 of the original 2500 copies of Alleggerita which has been out of print for more than a decade, you're going to either shell out some serious $$$ or find someone who doesn't know what they have on their hands. I guess the same could be said for a GTA but my surprise has come in the form of just how much people have been willing to pay for them but then again, its all supply and demand and something is only really worth what someone is willing to pay for it whatever that might be.

Joey,
I see your point but the new book will correct the errors in the old version and also include all the existing pictures as well as include new pictures not seen. We can debate this forever but I would think the old book would not nearly fetch what they were going for last year. I may be wrong though, but find it hard to beleive I would be You may want to consider selling it sooner then later.

I suspect also that the new copy will be priced similarly to Otto Vu (around E350) so the original versions should never be valued at less than this.

I paid only $75 when Tony's book first came out. I don't think I would pay more than $150 for an "upgraded" version...

Neither me. I would still buy it of course, because I collect them.
But that still wouldn't tempt me to sell my current copy of Alleggerita.....

I don't know about car reference books but in another (collectors) field that I do know about, whenever a much in demand out of print reference volume is updated and re-printed, the value of the original edition has taken a hit.
In fact there are one or two examples of where the value of the 'original' edition falls below that of subsequent more useful updated editions.
