Where is Albert?
Albert is alive & well, as for the car, can't say, I forgot!!!!
Here are some shots of my mk1 1750 The car has had a open checkbook
rebuild It has taken a team of two one and a half years to rebuild on a
jig. I am lucky as I have found heaps of factory assembly parts the whole
car has no body filler at all I could buy a gta for what this body cost
all welded as original spot welding and tig below is a list of the things I
have changed with nos parts
inner, middle and outer sills
doors
front and rear guards
front and rear panels
back end
boot floor up to shock mounts
scuttle drain
front and rear floors
front chassis rails
roof
all inner front radiator panels
middle cross chassis rails
rear inner guards
inner engine panels
bonnet
still trying to find nos boot lid
The only thing left of the original car is the chassis number . Everyone
who sees the car thinks i am mad It would have been cheaper to build a
ferrari and they are right I have spent more money on this car than
you would beleive I have everything nos waiting at home for it every part
on the car is new nothing is used exept for the center consol even the
instuments are new take a guess what it cost ?????

However do Alfa's last more than 1 year in your country ... an impossible feat, thanks to humidity ... and thus I worry about those GTA'a and GTAm's, they need dehumidified garages to last days without rusting.
Brilliant work BTW.

ps: Not sure I am a fan of somebody lighting up in a car workshop, paint and petrol fumes and cigarettes don't mix ...

Stunning, excellent job John.
I would like to know the motivation or the story of bringing her back to life.
Takis.

Dear Psk,
See attached photo, where possible I have galvanised panels... Surprisingly rust is not a problem here vrs Australia where things rust profusely, we often comment on the lack of rusty cars here.
People smoke in restraunts here, and it was only banned on aircraft three years ago, a thoroughly civilised country.

Dear Takis,
This car was purchased in supposed "restored'' condition, but when the paint came off I noticed patches in all the normal areas. So I decided to change all the panels. Then I noticed patched inner sills then noticed everything else, a real mess... So I bought another body which was straighter, the original car had a front end crash and was out of alignment. I had a lot to do with the Alfa club here who all have GTV's, but poorly restored so I decided to go at it as perfectly as possible.
I literally searched through the few old dealers here and found NOS parts. I searched further throughout Asia and found a lot on the way. Panels for Montreals, whole Montreals & lots of 2600 parts. I found numerous GTA & AM parts, even a supply of Marachell head lamps! Any way to cut a long story short, I bought every part, exterior & Interior for a GTV, and lot's more. I have to mention my panel beater named Anip, this guy is a magician with metal & Argon, Tig & Mig, he is fantastic, You guys would que up to use him. Any way, in three weeks it will be finished them I'm moving it to my garage at home, I will install airconditioning and complete the rebuild... Then we start on the AM, so I suppose that will be another story. Gulias used to be assembled here most GTV's here had flared guards as they were raced in the 70's. There was one GTA here but I have never found it. In my travels, I found a Villa Deeste, I think a Golden Arrow which has been stored for thirty years and was imported by the old Chinese Guy in 1943. My GTV was originally owned by the Italian Embassy here. Most of the good cars here were exported out, and a British guy literally took back a ship load.
A list of parts is too long to write here, but all that is left from the original car are the firewall & the attached inner frame, the A, B, & C pillars, the drive train tunnel, the back passenger floor & inner attached panels, the window columns at the front and the sides of the top of the car, finally the front cross member, the rest is NOS.
Let's swap restoration photos & AM info as sometimes the flow bench speak get's a little much! all I understand is that 240 HP is enough. If anyone needs parts, ask and I will send my friend's contact details.

Step nose vs. smooth nose is one reason. What was step nose for ? It is a unique design element. Air flow into engine compartment? I've looked at it and it seems quite tight, any ideas anybody?

I think it was just a design question (a nice one ). Giorgetto Giugaro was a rookie designer (it was his first car), and at the time there wasn't much concern about aerodynamics (except for the Super, but that one was drawn by a aero engineer...).

Theodore you make me suffer by restarting this thread again, as many of the fellow BB members know my dream project has been put on hold, family is more important at this stage of my life as is a new business I started last June which absorbs most of my time.
Sometime ago I went to a circuit near Athens where I had the luck to see with my own eyes the GTAm that is pictured below.
Seeing was one part hearing was the second, how can one ever forget that glorious sound, while cold the engine misfired when warmed the engine went with a blip of the pedal from 3000rpm to 9000 rpm with no hesitation and that unbelievable sound from the side exhaust.
There is a corner in my heart that still holds and still believes hope that the day will come soon mean while I can keep on dreaming.
I hope all of you fellow alfisti and BB members can understand.
Takis

Takis, i am really sorry if in any way i made you feel bad. be sure that i fully understand your sentiments about your project!
(I must say that there is a little project of a GTA 1300 Junior project into my brain but my 2000 GTV is not allowing me having such dreams... )
I hope that your business is going better than you have hoped! My best wishes for the future!

I can't hide that i am very jealous! You are very lucky to have seen this legendary car at close!
Recently i found by luck a person in Rhodes island who owns an original GTAm. You may be aware of him already. I talked with him in the phone, he told me a lot of things and | |
