1967 Tri-Color Car Details

Dear August GTA Forum Members,

I've moved over from my more normal and lowly spot on the mere steel bodied 105 GTV forum page, at Can Am Bob's suggestion, to seek your advice and help.

I've fashioned a 1969 GTV racer restoration (see pictures below) in the fashion of Horst Kwech's #3 1967 Trans-Am tri-colored car. While I'll never catch those pesky GTA's in the SOVREN race series I'm running, I at least want to look the part and want to festoon my car with the same sponsorship/advertisement stickers from the period, to finish the car off.

I've researched the pages on this forum and found a good number of pictures of the '67 tri-colored cars, but never a full side shot of either the red, or white sides of the car. Is there anyone out there with anymore cool pictures they can share?

I look forward to your help in filling in the blank spaces so to speak. Many thanks,

In my humble opinion, your four headlight late model GTV will never resemble any step-nose GTA or GTV...
But I hardily approve of your effort to continue the spirit of these great cars!
That said, the series sponsors at the time would have been STP, Valvoline, Goodyear, and either Champion or NGK. These would have had stickers on virtually all of the entrants (along with the Spoke-Wheel SCCA sticker).. Other possible mention would be Castrol, Koni, Sunoco...

And another thing!
Dave: Don't call me "August!" I get enough of that crap from the west coast "whippersnappers!" (who regularly duck me)!

...good luck with the 1750! It looks cool,

Great looking paint job. Good luck with your racing programme.

Is that a period brake option in picture one?

Nothing Wrong with wood

Is that a period brake option in picture one?[/quote]

In lieu of the hand brake, I do use a calibrated block of wood. I found a house brick just too heavy. Cheers,

Many thanks your note re: period ads, etc. I'm just glad to keep another Alfa out of the hands of the scrap merchants, or to just oxidize its way into oblivion. I really didn't set out to make a GTA lookalike, but saw some Trans-Am photos in Dave Friedman's book "The Pony Wars" and just thought these '67 cars looked great, so copied the paint job. Cheers,

Dave, call me at the shop Monday. One of our customers has found a place that can reproduce the stickers. He ordered a bunch to apply on his car. He sent us one set to test. BTW, are you coming to the open house / club meeting on the 9th? BBQ and Spirits will be there.

The Kangaroo on the #35, belongs to Horst Kwech's, 1967 GTA. Being a good expat Aussie, Horst kept a picture of his country's national symbol on his race mount.

The numbers on the Knauz Continental Motors race cars that year seem to change almost with every race. I'm told by Can Am Man that the numbers 3, or 6, were Horst's favorite numbers, so a combination, of one, or both appear in most photos of that year.

Bugger me. I never knew Kwech was an Aussie...
I guess I'll add him to the list with Vern Schuppan...
