GTA center grill section

Dear Alfisti,

Can a Giulia Super center grille section be cut and shaped to become a GTA center grille section?

This seems to me to entirely possible. The grilles seem to be almost identical from the front.

The following are some thoughts of mine about the possibility of making a GTA grille from a Giulia Super grille.

Firstly the GTA grille is much slimmer. The Super grille I suspect could be cut to the size of the thickness of the GTA grille. Not that this would be easy. Perhaps using a Dremel with a metal cutting disc would work.

There is another problem the bottom of the GTA grille is shaped to fit the lower edge of the Giulia Coupe body opening. The Giulia Super grille would have to be shaped to fit snugly against the body contour when fitted.

Perhaps a contour tool, one of those gadgets with sliding plastic sections which take countours, and taking a the countours of the GTA lower body section immediately under the grille then transposing these countours to the Giulia Super grille.

Again shaping the Giulia Super grille perhaps using a Dremel and with some very careful filing.

I would be very interested to hear if any one has made a GTA grille center piece from a Giulia Super grille center piece.

Best Regards

Trevor,
A friend copied my GTA grill for his GTAjr and it looks good. Don't know which grill he started with, but it had to be cut down. I'll let you know when he gets back in town.

Yes it is pretty common to use the Super heart trimmed to fit, thats what I did on my 69 GT Junior. The grill just bolts on after it is trimmed down, but you will still need to fill the lower vent holes at the base of the heart. If you look in the for sale section under "69 GT Junior" you can see my car with the cut down Super heart. You will notice, I have not filled the vent holes yet...

Super Grill

Its very easy to convert to a Super grill to look like a GTA shape. I used a 1/2 inch carbide burr to do it, but you must go slow and frequently try it for fit. Check the photo on my GT Jr.
The Super grill came from Australia.

John T. Inquiry

John,

I have photos taken at various races, plus a bunch taken when I was building the car. I will attach one of my favorites, taken at the SVRA race before last years 12 Hours of Sebring. I was having problems during one race with my electrical cut off switch. I can send you an email with more photos or in a private message.
The wheels are old American Racing mesh wheels I found on ebay. They had been on a Mustang. I use 7x14 on the back with 225x50 Toyo Proxes RA1, and 6x14 on the front with 205x55's on the front. The car is a 67 GTV with original 1600 engine.

Thanks
Dave
