GTA replica
I am in the process of building a GTA replica for racing.
I need the measurements for fitting the push knobs and loops for the outside locks on the doors. Who can help?
Besides that, what are the modifications we have to do to the inside of the locks of a GTV to make the pushknobs work?
The only good picture I found fot the outside was of the Alfaholics replica, but this only gives a hint.
I hope someone can give me the exact place to drill, and hopefully some pics of the inside.

I am not a big fan of GTA replicas, as the real cars had aluminum bodies. A GTAm replica is OK, as they had steel bodies with "add on" fender flares, etc..but it is your car, so do what makes you happy...

its a racer, with polyester doors, bootlid, bonnet. Because of the polyester doors, the GTA locks are better to prevent cracking of the paint. Besides that, GTA`s and GT`s both were build for racing using polyester parts and other mods, so I think my modifications are acceptable in historic perspective.
I use the term GTA replica because most people will understand which model I am talking about..
An GTA replica CAN have alu bodypanels, all can be made, but for racing purposes (the way I see it) this will be a very expensive modification, not accepted even by all race-classes. The way I build the car it will be around 825-850 kg.
And I rather see an replica in steel and an owner who accepts its an replica, than an alu-bodied replica with owners who claim its the real thing.
But can you answer my question , next to your negative comments?

You might not be "trying to be ngative (sic)", but he didn't post a thread asking for people's opinions on GTA replicas, just about a technical issue. Dunno about you but my screen says "Alfa Romeo Technical Forums > GT (1965-1974)"
Sorry I cant help you Veep, and good luck with your car - If I had the money I'd probably do the same.

A while back I made a template so I can do the same on my GT Jr.. I'll look for it this weekend. If I can't find it, I'll measure one of the GTA's in the shop.

Veep, Do you have pictures? I'd really like to see your work in progress and how these things are done. Thanks Jeff

And this is my racecar project..
We are putting it together right now. We are starting with the side windows and doors, so next week we hope to finish one door. The rear side windows are in. We use plexiglas all around except the windscreen, which has to be laminated glass.
When the big things are coming together I`ll update the topic.

Sweet car- another vehicle to consider copying when making mine.
Sorry about the minor hijack here, but how did you decide on those haning pedals? And how did you decide to attach and re-enforce them?
The lower door beam is way cool- I'm planning on the same thing.
The one area where I'm sure I'l be different are the door bars- as I'll make them removeable with a good sized sleeve.

there are a few options on brakes: use the original standing pedals. A problem (little) since in holland single circuits are forbidden in racecars. So then we had to modify the system to accept double cylinders. second option is to use the system of the hanging-pedal cars. Since we were looking at modifying anyway, this system came up as third option (on this site by the way, many racers that use it). The way to fix it was just trial-fitting in the car.
Another reason to use this system is that the car will have porsche callipers at the front, and no booster. The extra option to adjust the brake bias is very welcome.

I think scooter is a little jaded by the people who come to club meetings and harp on what people do to their cars.
It's a fair point, I will admit. But he needs to find others who are like himself. Scooter, you need to introduce yourself to Joe Benson (the author of the Buyers Guide). He LOVES modifying his cars.
Alas, I look forward to seeing Anthony's data, as I hope to do the same to my '67 JR, and make it appear to be a GTA.
