I could not find my old template so I made a new one. All you need to do is print it out and cut along / around the lines.

Walter, I did that conversion several times on my own cars, but I can't remember exactly what I did I do remember that it was a very simple thing to get the push button to activate the latch. Like bending (or welding) a little tab on the latch. It should be obvious when you install the push button.

GTA replica - how could you!!!!

seriously though, i am also in the midst of a gta replica project and am very happy to have come accross some like minded people, i have just addressed the door mech problem, the template posted looks spot on, you wil have to make some "angles" to fix to the original mech tab, (if you want some pics, or just a chat, pm me) however, i have not resolved how to lock the passenger door so the button on mine is purely cosmetic and the door opened from inside, drivers door locks of course.
perhaps we should have a replica forum!!!

yesterday evening we put the locks in place. Drilling with the help off Anthony`s template: spot-on! (thanks again!). No pics, I forgot to bring my digital camera....

Making the push-knobs work was easy, modify the tab om the original lock by turning it (after drilling out a little pin) and welding it to fix it in the new position. A little bending to eliminate the last mm free play and done!

I am very happy for you that the car is progessing as YOU want it. It's just that MY personal taste runs toward cars that are are close as humanly possible to the way they first left the factory. Just one man's opinion...

O.K. Stuart, that`s your personal opinion. But I believe these cars were made to be used (properly). Restoring a car is one thing, but I use old cars, have no problem using them in winter too.

Even the factory itself were modifying these cars for racing, so what I and dozens of others are doing is in the spirit of Alfa Romeo (or ferrari etc).

And what is original, sometimes its difficult to be sure..

(By the way, goodluck with the belgian &$*#%, by all means it`s my neigbour!! , since I live in Holland).

Dr., just my opinion but you've shown yourself to be quite the self-centered jackass...continually. Of course, just my opinion. I wonder why the people that asked you to stay here did so...they must see some value in your supposed "knowledge"...

Veep, looks like a great project! Please post some more pics when you get a chance. Sorry for bitching in your thread.

Ted

Amen,
In just about every new topic someone posts he ALWAYS has to state his "opinion", well frankly nobody gives a crap. I need to put olczk and dretceterini on my ignore list.

back to the topic looks good and please post pics when your project is completed.

I think the problem in just about every argument on this site starts with the use of the word: REPLICA.

Lets just call these cars race cars ... then everybody is happy.

The fact that your race from 100 yards away looks like a GTA is fine, once close it ofcourse is miles different (roll cage, etc.) ... and thus the originality people won't 'target' these threads.

I happen to agree that replica's snck and are bad for the whole classic car movement, when they use a real car as a donar ... otherwise I do not care (ie. if made from a 2006 Ford, etc.), BUT I love race cars .

Replica just means bad things to so many ... especially the Ferrari crowd, where original cars are been trashed for replicas like the Brazilian rain forest is being felled.
Pete
ps: If you can make this car as light as your target weight she will be a beauty.

As long as Veep is not making all the mods to a low-mileage, no-rust, un-restored yet concourse condition step nose, I think it's a great idea!! After all, you are saving the car by giving it a new life!! As PSk said, trashing good, running 250GTE by removing mechanical parts (and maybe even VIN) to create 250GTO or 250 testa rossa replica is the absolute sin, but what Veep is trying to accomplish is totally different from that. Best of luck to your project, and be sure to keep us posted!!

Veep could make whatever changes to a factory original, 0 mile car for as much as I'm concerned...PSK, hey, how about we just call it a rope burn instead of a lynching...or just plain Ptarded.

As I explained early to the readers of this topic I used the term REPLICA just to be sure that everybody knows hòw it`s gonna look, so with GTA - style doorknobs and pulls, GTA STYLE front grille (by the way, the grill centre, what part to use?? Giulia??) and so on. Since roll cages were fitted by autodelta in the GTA`s that is period too, only the cage itself is made to the modern standards. I don`t intend to fool anyone , than I had to change the rear fenders because this car is a 69, with the later bodystyle.
By the way, the extra cooling openings in the front were used on race-gt `s also ,not only GTA`s, that were done by various tuners in the end 60`s early 70`s, so this is also period. Like I think the doorknobs are also when using polyester doors (that were homologated I think).

Personally everybody must know for himself what to do with his/her cars, it`s your money and time! live and let live, AS LONG AS ANY TRADE IS FAIR!!

I hate people who try to sell replica`s as the real stuff, they really should be put away forever (or just shot, why spend any time on them..)! Just be fair and honest!

Pictures of the (slow) progress will follow (as long as I don`t forget to take the camera or spare batteries...)

Veep,

When you get a chance, pease post pictures on how you modified the inside door mechanism to accept the GTA button. I am sure a lot of people would like to see that.

You car is going to be so awesome when it's done.
