GTAm or GTA replica ???

Just about all the parts for the race car are in ( 69 GTV). The only thing I've installed at this point is the race quality calipers and the 13X9 wheels. The motor and tranny are are also installed but I can de-tune it and build another. In other words nothing irreversible. Here's the thing, I was prepping the body of my 67 sprint veloce for paint and got to thinking. Should I just make the 67 sprint the race car and keep the 69 GTV original? But also it's not like there are a lot of 67 veloce out there either? Then I thought, Rivets voting was a huge help....why not let the gang at AflaBB determine what car gets built this weekend. So gang, lets have the pro's vsthe con's and the vote.

69 will be your GTAm replica and the 67 will be your GTA replica. How much better does it get? The 69 could be a full race car and the 67 could be a street/track car? That's what I would do if they were mine.

The idea is nothing short of great. My wife will be nothing short of killing me if I pitch that idea. Unless you have a way to sell the idea. Because she watches the check book like a hawk!

Here's the voice of "reason"...

The GTaM's where based on the 69 America, but they swapped out the Spica for Lucas sliding throttle injection and added the flares, so if you want a RIVETED wide body Bertone coupe, the '69 is your car of choice. The US injection car, was a brilliant way of getting around the FIA regs since no special homologation cars had to be built... There where some step nose GTaM Juniors, but those where '70s models and on and Euro versions, where the step nose lived on longer than it did in the US. I'm not sure if the GTaM Juniors where fuel injected. So Anthony is WAY right, don't make the '67 a wide body, and the historically correct way of doing the wide body thing is the '69... The coolest thing is that FIA these days allow you, if you're diligent enough to re-build an American '69 with the right parts and paperwork to actually "homologate" your home built replica to compete in the same racing classes as the "real" thing, as an exact replica. And it'll prolly cost you more to source all the correct alu. and Magnesium parts for the '67 to make a GTA replica than make a good GTaM.

My $0.02

Nick

Injection is injection... RIGHT?! In the same spirit I'm adding modern injection on my '69....

Very good point Nick, and now that Anthony planted that EVIL idea in my head about doing both, maybe I should stay on track with the 69 and ponder the 67's future.... unless someone has another idea?

Make the 69 your GTam and drive the hell out of it on the track. Only problem is you won't be able to vintage race it here with Sovren you know that - right?

You will need to go south or east to race it which sucks!

It is quite simple all Sovren race cars must conform to the 1969 SCCA or FIA GCRs and the GTam was homolgated in 1970. I went down this road 2 years agao when I build Kry Baby. It sucks but it ain't going to change. They are pretty proud of that line in the sand.

I can explain more over a beer sometime.

You could race it in Conference but you would be running against modern cars and get your *** kicked.
