Alfa GTA & GTAm articles

All-
I had a couple of free hours (from my 4 month old twins!) and scanned a couple of articles and posted them here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~jtandmary...les/index.html

I could only fit 2 for now since I only have 10 mb of space......Anyway, both articles are several years old and thought some of you might find them interesting. Enjoy

BTW- I haven't tested printing them, so if the size is incorrect, let me know

-JT

Yes, stange number. I don't even know what a 138.... model number represents. Maybe it's a misprint in the magazine. 136.... is Euro 1750 model number, but a GTAm should be 153.... USA model designation.
My GTAm is 1531068 and is a mid 1970 build with floor mounted pedals, not hanging pedals (see firewall mounted brake servo) as the one in the article, this suggests a later car. Strange, but anything was possible at Autodelta I guess.

On the European Car GTAm article they spoke of optional Aluminium ATE brake callipers. Never seen those, anyone has a picture of them?
Are they 4 pot or 2 pot?

I was told the Aluminium ATE calipers were built for Porsche AND then was used by Autodelta at a later date..... can anyone validate that? In all the porsche's I've had, I don't recall this being the case.

I am having trouble reading the articles on the web because they are so large. I'm also not able to save or print them for the same reason. Does anyone have any tip / suggestions?
Thanks...

yeah with the brake calipers, they appeared to be the same forging as the porsche. they also had the same mounting bolt pattern. i had a gtam that i drove on the street (minus the correct engine) between 1978/1982 in souther california. at one point i had to rebuild the front calipers. the piston size and shape was different and the piston seals were very unique. after several phone calls to ate, they sent me a bag of the special seals free! also the calipers were mounted to a special adaptor plate to mount to the special very unique front uprights due to the 10.5" diameter disk and 13" wheels.

Cheers, paul van der linden

I'll take some pictures of the calipers and post them. I don't know how similar they are to any Porsche units , but I have heard that some early 911 competition types used similar. I don't know about seal sizes yet but will find out soon as this is on the list to be done soon.
I'm still looking for anybody who has knowledge of individual GTAm histories. My car was built in April '70 and was sold to Australian owner as a worn-out race car in December '70. During 1970 it must have had some history that is not known by anyone here. It was originally red with black trim and was veiwed by the Australian buyer at Autodelta with old stickers etc. on it. Unfortunatley he did not take any photos at the time......he was fighting with them because he PAID for a NEW car!
Any ideas on who could help?

i purchased my gtam from jerry rosenstock of los angeles in 1981 or 1982. i do not remember the chassis # but i do know that it was correct according to the fusi book. jerry told me that he had purchased the car from some guy who worked for alfa romeo in el segundo. i purchased the car body for $2300 and purchased the mostly original (to that chassis) suspension peices from dave vegher for around $1000. I was never able to afford the correct engine or trans as i was 20 years old and working as a busboy/waiter in laguna at the time. the car was red with white nose and side stripe and gold 9x13 campy's with 236/60 13 cn36 perelli tires. i installed a 2.0 litre with webbers, cam and headers and drove it on the street for three years. i sold the car to john cote in 1990 and he raced it in so. cal. with the alfa club for several years. in 1994 john traded it to robert pass of "passport transport" for a 1960's one-off american road racer project car. i have no idea where the car is today, does anyone out there know?

cheers, paul van der linden

Stories like that make me wish I was older back then! $2300 for a real GTAm shell! $1000 for the suspension pices! I remember seeing this car race at Palm Springs in the late 80's / early 90's. This is also the GTAm featured in the Alfa Romeo Buyers Guide.
