I know the marketing manager for Chrysler/Fiat/Alfa. The manual is NOT a good box. The reviews in europe have been very negative and they don't want people to have the wrong impression of the brand as it is JUST coming back. It all the fad to ask for a manual now to be honest and it is fun to drive a stick but not when its not as slick as a Porsche.

Until they can improve the shift feel of the current box they wont bring it here.

They've been making gearboxes for years that have been pretty good. The ones in our Milano and two 164s are fine. The one in the Giulietta we drove in Italy was fine, as was the one in the Lancia we also drove. The one in the 2000 Spider I drove in NZ was also fine. What is supposedly wrong with the new one?

Or, is this just...

All the Journos complained about the feel. They felt it was "rubbery" Look up Chris Harris' video on the Giulia..Evo magazines reviews (all available online) they all complained about the feel.

It's just good PR not to take a chance. They made a decision cause bad news travels fast in todays electronic world.

You'd think after 100 years they'd not screw up a manual transmission...

Can you order the Giulia with manual transmission?

With the new 911 Carrera (991.2) you can and it has 7 speed manual and $3200 less than PDK, but I also decided to go with the PDK 7 speed and like it very much.... also very much usable in traffic.

Then, according to the German car fans, it should be better than they are saying.

Of course, I do remember our 75 Alfetta sedan which had kind of a vague rubbery shifting feel. The 78 was better.

Dual clutch gearbox for Giulia was designed, tested and ready for production. But in the last moment they decided to use ZF on QV
