The only relevant comment here is that Alfa Romeos boss, FIAT, closed the engine department. Nothing to do with the age of engineers

So .... they hire another engine designer. Or go out of business when the last man crokes of old age.

Er, not just possibly, that is exactly what happened. FIAT closed the Alfa Romeo engine department. FIAT owns and makes all decisions for Alfa Romeo's future.
