Hello all. My Montreal got a respray by the previous owner some years ago, and the new red looks quite different from the original AR521 Rosso. The paint code used is supposedly written on a strip of masking tape behind the fuel flap, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it says.

Montreals with the original red paint does not turn almost orange in bright light, but mine does. Anyone care to guess what the colour code is, or perhaps the colour?

Here's the strip of masking tape with the colour code:

Here's a picture taken while the sky was overcast:

This one's having a 350W halogen work light pointing at the car:

I removed the seats, rubber mats and jute type insulation from my '73 Spider; then spent a couple of evenings with a mallet and scrapper removing the infamous asphalt coating from the floorboards, in preparation of starting repair of the rusty floorboards. (It was a little easier to remove than I expected based on the posts that I'd read)

Since I also need to pull the engine and trans I figure now is the time to remove the center console, and as long as I'm at it, also the dash.

Does anyone have a procedure for the R&R of the dash and console?, or is it relatively straightforward and obvious once I get into it? I've done a quick search of past posts, but failed to come up with any info.

Also, on a '73, was there any carpeting? On mine, I found no indication of any, or that there ever had been any carpeting, just the rubber mats. When I look at the various vendors' web sites they all appear to list carpet sets as available for the early S2 spiders.

I have a 1968 Alfa 1300 Junior Spider ( Euro model). The paint code decal is missing. However ,a previous owner requested and recieved build date, paint code, etc. direct from Alfa Romeo. Alfa Romeo said that the car was painted Metallic Light Gray-AR 727. A book I have--Original Alfa Romeo Spider-- lists the '66-'69 Metallic Light Gray as AR 712. 1969- early 70's Silver Metallic is listed as AR 727. 70's- early 80's US and European Alfas also have a Mettalic Light Gray but this is AR 737. What is likely the correct paint code ?Are they all the same?? Thanks

Hey Folks..

Wondering if anyone has dealt with Wolf Steel lately. I have had a couple thousand bucks worth of sheet metal on order for my GTV for almost a month. They do not respond to emails and Allen Hall, the contact person there has a voice mail box that is full, so you cant leave a message. Starting to get concerned as them seem very flaky....I havent heard anything bad about them, but havent really heard anything the other way either..

Input/advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance..

Hi Guys, Can someone look at their conv. top frame and advise me on what I think might be missing. The front bow that sits over the driver and passenger windows seems like it should connect to the frame instead of being free floating. It attaches to the top before the windshield connection.I replaced the weather stripping over the side windows and found a screw on each side that comes up through the frame and is close to the open ends of the bow. Also I need a source for the fixed or inserted nuts in the bulkhead where you bolt through the rear drape to secure the rear end of the top. Thanks, Bob

Hi folks,

Has any one been successful in recreating the micro texture that Alfa uses on the duetto rear view mirror and the heater control pod. It is sort of a very fine wrinkle finish. In the seventies, I was able to get a Ditzler/PPG product in a spray can that was an exact match. I’m not having much luck as of late. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Well I guess I am officially certifiable. Around 27 years ago I had a 74 GTV and was driving on a back country road near my house when out of the corner of my eye I notice two small cars in a shed so I pull over. Turns out they were two spiders and after talking to the owner I decided he wanted to much for them and besides I had a youngun on the way and didn't have anyplace to put another Alfa. So last Sunday I'm out for a nice drive in the 77 Spider I just finished and decided to go by the place where the spiders were 27 years ago. They were gone but I did knock on the door and talked to the gentleman who answered the door. He had worked for the man who used to own the place and knew about the cars so he gave me his phone number. I called. Now I'm back home and own another Alfa. The second one is gone, he sent it to the crusher! ouch! The remaining car has been in a storage container for the last 13 years nice and dry, the car has one little rust spot in the passenger side foot well, other than that it's all there, straight and never been wrecked. I made him an offer and he didn't take it, we were only 200 apart but he did mention he had a spare motor that was stored in another place. You all would have cried, there was an alfa crankshaft covered in rust!!! I almost shot him, anyway there is a good block, head, basically a good clean motor except for the rusted crank, even had new bearing shells but they are shot, the spica is also shot but then underneath there is an intake manifold with two webers on it. I went up a hundred and he came down a hundred. I'll pick the car up Thursday. So here we go again!!!!:D:confused::o:rolleyes:

In the next couple of weeks I'm going to begin some of the body work on my '73 Spider. (Rusty driver's side floorpan, some rust at the front of both rocker panels.)

I've done a lot of mechanical work over the years, but never any body/rust repair. I've read through most of the great threads on rust removal and repair, and am quite inspired by the work others have done. There's lot of good info on welding, but not too much on cutting/grinding/spot weld removal.

What tools/techniques do you all use for cutting/trimming and spot weld removal, etc.? I've got a 4.5" angle grinder, dremal tool, drills, etc.

Best regards,
Gordon
