I have been having issues with my brakes for a while now. Never really realzied it was an issue until i stopped driving for a while. Went back to drive the car and realized I couldn't lock up any wheel with all my weight on the brake pedal. I have new rotors and pads in the front and new pads in the back. All the lines are in good shape and I bleed the brakes numerous times and haven't gotten much air out. The brake feels firm and will not make it to the floor. The car slows and the brakes work just not as well as other cars.

I am thinking it may be the booster. The booster does hold a vacuum but not sure on how to test.
Does anyone know of a good setup to remove the booster and use a big master cylinder? Is that a good or bad idea? I am going to use the car for street and autocross driving.

Thanks

Painting aluminium centercaps: Advice Please

Hi, I'm changing the colour of my centercaps from red to black and I've just been getting them back to the bare metal. The pic below shows the before and after. Each cap is cast from aluminium and the paint will need to fill to a depth of c1.5mm to match up with the raised aspect of the design. Also the cap has a slight curvature (second photo).

I could really do with your advice before I proceed. My questions are:
* Which paint would best suit this kind of application, given that it has to fill to that depth?

* How should I best prepare the metal?

* What's the best way to apply the paint to achieve an even finish

Be great to get your thoughts. Many thanks

Hello all. I am getting a '71 GTV going after it sitting for a long time and the calipers desperately need rebuilding. Not a full restoration at this time, just trying to get the car to a "weekend car" status for now. I've read some of the threads about doing it yourself and have done it before on other cars but am considering going the easy route and buying rebuilt from International or other. Are there any disadvantages to losing my original calipers as cores and going with professionally rebuilt calipers? I don't need the car to be operational for a few weeks while mine are rebuilt, so that part doesn't really matter. It seems like losing mine to the unknown history of some rebuilt ones might be a bad idea but on the other hand if they are rebuilt properly then does it matter? Is there any reason to spring for new ones? I'm in Southern California so any suggestions would be appreciated!

I was wondering if anyone runs the Rota RB (Panasport look a likes) with r-compounds. I'm thinking about getting a set for my track car but I'm worried they are not strong enough for a set of full slick tires (Yes the non DOT Dunlop SP sport tires off the front of a Radical SR4 or SR8) I can get the tires for free with about 1 track days use on them.:D The question is, are the wheels strong enough. The car they are going on is lighter than a street driven GTV or spider by a long shot (less than 2000 lbs.) If anyone autoXs or uses them for a track day wheel I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,
Will

Hi

has anyone mounted the early Porsche S ATE aluminium calipers on cars with non vented disk ? Any drawbacks or troubles ?

It seems, by measuring the piston calipers vs the O-ring position in the calipers itself that there is enough travel for using with non vented disk, provided the pad are not weared too much.

Was just wondering if anyone have already doen this mod.

Hi, does anyone know where I can find the standard, tapered lug nuts for a 105 but in black ?? Are they available in an anodized black finish? I would paint the ones I have but I figure the effect will be ruined every time I use the wrench to remove them.

Cheers

Recently took possession of a 1967 Round tail.
In it's sordid past, there was an engine fire affecting the driver's side front suspension. This necessitated R & R of the bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, etc.

But the problem is the spring. I can't get the residue off of it. It has apparently embedded itself in the plastic/vinyl coating.

Tried carb cleaner, "Super Purple", kerosene, Orange Razz-ma-tazz. You know: everything under the sink. The yellow coating looks awful!

Any suggestions?

I have a 67 Duetto with Dunlop brakes and I'm trying to decide what to do with the brakes.

I'm okay with single circuit brakes. I have floor mounted pedals and I want to keep the car somewhat correct and there are no NEW floor mounted, LHD, dual circuit cylinders available.

I don't like the idea of having a rebuilt master cylinder and I can't find new Dunlop MCs. Since my car was unboosted, it has the 3/4" Dunlop cylinder.

Can a new 20mm floor mounted ATE MC for unboosted cars be substituted for the Dunlop MC? Diameter is almost the same. (.75" vs .79") If the available pedal travel is similar, shouldn't this work? I'm remaking the hard lines, so I'm not concerned about the couplings/flares being different. Aside from the MC, caliper rebuild kits are available.

The car is having its suspension rebuilt, so now's that time to convince me that I am wrong to keep the Dunlops! :) I've considered the 2L upgrade with new parts for the front and rear, but since I am going to stay single circuit and both systems will lock the wheels, is it really worth the trouble for a sunny weekend driver?

Thanks!

Thanks!
