I'm selling my GTV6. I'm asking $6750. The car is in Portland, Oregon.

Mechanically, the car is working perfectly: starts right up, no fluid leaks, super reliable, no rust, everything works great, super clean. I’ve been using it as a daily driver for the past 3 months, 30 miles to work and back everyday. Passed DEQ with flying colors two months ago, I still have the report out. Nardi wheel, AC, original Recaro seats (scuffed in front, but not ripped) and Alpine CD. There is rust in the spare well as well as some little scuffs and dings and chips I have documented in the flickr gallery bellow. I haven't seen many others in this color, metallic beige champagne.

It does have some of the typical GTV6 quirks....
- Wipers and windows run slow. Recently upgraded to Milano alternator, but the issue persists. Cleaning up the contacts might help.
- 2nd gear synchro. There’s a little learning curve shifting without grinding. Once you get it down, you’re set. You can’t really downshift into 2nd, however, except at a slow roll.
- Small crack where the door meets the window inside (not interior) of the door. (My understanding is that this is common.)
- Three small (~1 in.) cracks on the dash.
- The speedometer doesn’t work (this may be a result of the Milano transaxle).

It does have some unique qualities...
- There is a small dent on the left rear quarter panel above the wheel well. You can see it in the photos
- The driver-side window won’t roll up through the power window switch. There is something binding it, I believe related to the lock. You can use the Alfa provided crank to roll the window back up, so it’s not a huge issue, just annoying on hot days, parking garages.
- One of the aftermarket fog lamps lens is broken.
- Milano transaxle and performance springs. May have some other Milano parts, I’m really not sure.

There are also some mysterious aspects as well:
- The odometer doesn’t work. It reads 55K I have reason to believe this is “relatively” accurate. (Carfax shows 44K at 2002, and I know it was not driven after 2005 because the ’05 tags were expired when I bought it).
- Carfax lists an accident in ’04. Not sure what that was about and the owner I bought if from was not aware of it. There is no documentation before me-sorry. The accident was in Washington and I have the report number if you want to try some detective work.

The car had been sitting for five years when I bought it four months ago. I had it tuned up including new rear brakes, cat installed, axle boots, water pump, fuel/oil filter, milano alternator, and timing belt tensioner. All performed by the best Alfa mechanic in Portland, documented. I honestly love this car and was going to keep driving it until the sunset forever, but I’m moving to a place where they salt the mighty out of the roads. Rather than see it rust into oblivion in a season, I’d like to see it go to a good owner.

***** Some Provenance

I have owned this car for the last 25 years. I purchased it in Ben Lomond, California, September 28, 1985.

On April 8th, 2009 I sent an email inquiry about this car to Alfa Romeo in Italy.

On April 23rd I received the following reply:

<QUOTE>
April 23, 2009

With reference to your request we are informing you as follows.

According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 1495.10201 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce, manufactured on the 3rd June 1960 and sold on the 30th October 1961 to Hoffman Motor Car Co., New York, U.S.A.
The body colour is sky blue with black interiors.

<UNQUOTE>

The original paint and interiors would look something like this snap taken from the movie, "Nine" released in 2009.

*** My History With This Car ***

25 years ago, when I purchased this car, it was dead: the engine had been severely modified and abused, and was burning oil in huge blue clouds, the transmission was thrashed, and the suspension was modified to uselessness (an attempt had been made to make it into a dragster - bizarre).

In 1985, I had the engine rebuilt to factory specifications and balanced (when purchased, it had oversized pistons that increased its displacement to 1510 cc), and I replaced the transmission with a 1967 5-speed. I also replaced the shocks, springs, and anti-sway bars.

Shocks are KONI adjustable tie-downs, and are still in fabulous condition
Springs are very stiff and are almost two inches shorter than stock
anti-swaybars are oversized (approximately one and a half times the original diameter)
The wheels are Panasports special-ordered for this car (almost identical to the wheels Alfa Romeo used when racing in the ‘60’s). The spare is a “widened” stock wheel that still fits in the area behind the seats.

**** 1,500 Miles Ago ****
*NEW Engine
the engine was completely rebuilt again by Terry Tinney at Performance Motors (2135-K South Vasco Road, Livermore, CA 94550). A new engine block was used. The original block - and MANY other spare parts - are available for whoever purchases this car.
*New Radiator

Not because it needed it, but because it was the right thing to do while the engine was being rebuilt

*New Tires

Pirelli 185/65 P400s - They have the exact same circumference as the original tires.

*New Roof (not installed)
Still in the box, a new Robbins convertible roof made for this model.

*Carburetors Rebuilt
by Gron Parry - Weber Specialist and SCCA Carburetion Instructor
*Tachometer Rebuilt
by Palo Alto Speedometer - I replaced the tachometer cable when it started making noise, but it wanted more than just a new cable. Now it has a new cable and a rebuilt gauge.
*New Seat Covers
Exceptionally well crafted by my wife to fit these seats. Only needed on the passenger side (seat bottom is split), but each seat has a matching cover (black w/white piping).
*Rebuilt Brake Hydraulic Cylinders
All of the four wheel cylinders as well as the Master Cylinder have been re-sleeved with brass by White Post Restorations.

*NO RUST

*ALL external and instrument lights work

*ALL-ORIGINAL, working Veloce gauges

I'VE ONLY OWNED 2 OTHER ALFA'S IN THE PAST BUT I'D SAY THIS 26 YEAR OLD ALFA’S OVER ALL CONDITION FROM 1 TO 10 IS, 1 BEING FOR PARTS ONLY, AND 10 BEING NADA BLUE BOOK VALUE, I’D SAY ABOUT A 7, IT'S IN GOOD SHAPE.

I DROVE THIS ALFA FOR FUN! AND IT IS A BLAST TO DRIVE, SO I’VE ONLY PUT ABOUT FIFTEEN-HUNDRED TO TWO THOUSAND MILES ON THE ALFA SINCE I BOUGHT IT ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND IT ALWAYS RAN FINE FOR ME, BUT THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT ANY CAR OF ITS AGE NEEDS, IN THIS CASE MOSTLY COSMETIC.
-1 DENT IN THE BODY.
(but it never bothered me.
-shop, overhaul, electrical, and owners manual on dvd are included).

THIS CAR IS SOLD AS-IS, WHERE-IS.

THIS IS NOT A PROJECT CAR, THIS IS A TINKERS' CAR, TURN THE KEY ON AND IT WILL GO, AND IT STOPS TOO.

Forced to let go of this 1963 Alfa Romeo 2600 touring spider. Chassy # AR191120
Originally from Arizona, which explains why it is so rust free.
Great trunk, floors, rockers, sills etc.........
Found a note in the glove box which read that brake system was rebuilt and new piston rings installed, but there was no date on this paper. Also found the Arizona registration.
Stored inside since 1985 before I found it.
Comes with touring metal hard top and all the chrome trims present and soft top frame as well. There is oil in the engine but as precaution I also filled cylinders with mystery marvel oil.
About to close on a house and had unexpected surprise that I'll have to have more cash in account, thus the opportunity for someone to take over.
Contact me via PM or email me directly.
Will give AlfaBB members first crack at it but it will be going to ebay within 24hrs. price $20,000
P.S. I don't know how to upload pictures here.......anybody can help?
Otherwise respond with your email and I'll send you pictures!

This car was originally from Massachusetts and worked on, coincidentally, by my father who was a mechanic at Gaston Andre at the time. The original owner was very meticulous in taking care of the car, and it shows. My father and I moved to Vermont 7 years ago and later found that the Alfetta was sold to somebody who was in Vermont as well. We bought it with a blown head gasket and needing a clutch and brakes. Since completing that work (about 2 years ago) the car has been a daily driver, only in summer months. The odometer stopped working at 74k miles. I would guess there's around 100k miles on the car. There is some rust around the driver's side tail-light. We have a replacement panel that could be welded in place to clean it up (it never really bothered me that much). Other than that, and a couple small spots, the car is rust free. The interior is clean. The stitching on the front seats is beginning to separate at the seams. A CD player and better quality speakers were installed last year. We have also replaced the water pump, starter and tires within the last year. Sadly I'm moving and won't be able to take this Italian classic with me.
The car is located in Burlington, Vermont.
I'm still looking for a good stepnose as an entry into Alfa's. Not many advertised right now for sale. I'm allergic to body work, so I'm looking for a dry project car or a decent driver. If anyone has any leads, pm me or e-mail me at caliautobahn@gmail.com.

Thanks!

This car was an everyday driver for the past 6 years, and was up til 9/1. It starts easily, runs well, has working A/C, (134a conversion), and has been extremely reliable. It has many upgrades but as is typical of these cars, the body has rust.

Motor: 3.0 liter V6, with 10:1 compression pistons, and the better factory "s" cams.

Trans: Limited slip trans axle taken from a Milano Verde.

A/C: Blows cold and has not been recharged in over a year.

**** IMPORTANT****** OZ Racing Rims on car are EXTREMELY RARE AND SORT AFTER. I have already been offered $1000 for the rims and they need trueing and refinishing. (approx. $500 job). When they were restored last, I was offered $2000 for the 4 wheels. ALFA ROMEO offerd these wheels as a factory upgrade in the early '80s.

Bumpers are complete and unmolested. Last set I sold as nice as these fetched $400.

Speedo is out of a late '86, and works seemlessly with the later Milano Verde Transmission. Again, this is extremely rare and sort after.

Radiator was rodded in the last 2 weeks.

Battery is 5 months old.

Brakes work well, and upon depressing pedal, do not pull left or right.

These cars are appreciating in value every year. If restored , they fetch between $8- 12K.

This would make a great restoration project, or could be used as a good parts car. PLEASE ONLY CALL IF YOUR R E A L L Y INTERESTED. CAR CAN BE TEST DRIVEN BY APPIONTMENT.

$2750 O.B.O.
