Alfetta fuel pump not coming on.

Cross post from "Rescue Project Thread - NJ Alfetta Sedan". Trying to get this alfetta started and the fuel pump is not running when I turn the switch. If someone has a troubleshooting recomendation that would be great. Could be the column switch, a fuse, the pump, a broken wire etc. Any help would be great.

"Fuel pump still not working. The car has no inertia switch as can be seen in the first picture. Next two pictures show the fuse box and the fuel pump. Fuses seem fine. What gouunds do I need to check? Are there any other things I need to check before taking off the fuel pump? I can swap over the one from the black alfetta to determine if it is an inop fuel pump if need be. I don't have a volt meter/ohm meter but can get one so is anybody has instructions on what to check with that please post as well. With the missing inertia switch I think (guessing) that somebody just jumped the wire so that it is always "on"?"

Anyone interested in new oil vapor condensors?

I am thinking of getting a run of oil vapor condensors made up. These are the black canisters that capture the oil vapors from the cam cover. Nearly every one of these that I've seen has been rusted away and I have not found a source for replacements.

Does anyone have interest in a new one? If so, would you prefer carbon steel (as stock) or stainless?

Let me know,

Front brakes dragging, how to troubleshoot?

Good morning,

The front brakes are dragging a bit on my 1976 Alfetta GT. They get hot - not super hot and I can still roll the car if I push it hard enough. The pedal and effectiveness feels right. Fluid looks OK.

Can you suggest where to start troubleshooting? Is there a return pressure check valve in the MC, so maybe a rebuild?

The manual doesn't really describe this. The rears are OK, where I understand there is adjustability.

Thank you, - Art

I'm fitting a Halda Tripmaster and Speedpilot to my Alfetta, but I haven't got the right fittings to tee into the speedo cable. I found a list of common Halda fittings, but it didn't mention the Alfetta. I know its a long shot, but if anyone happen to know the product code for the right t-gear please let me know.

Here's the Alfetta (sprint veloce) I was looking for - a fairly clean California car, garaged all it's life, no visible rust back hatch, around the windshield, rockers, nada. A '78, the original owener kept pretty good care of it - professionally, and regularly, serviced with records going back to day one, original service log filled out. Even has original sales slip, owners manual, 2 dealer provided binders of servicing regimes, spec's, parts catalog, everything. Paints a tad faded in that splotchy alfetta fashion but twas garaged all it's life and probably never saw much rain. Interior is clean, clean, clean. 82K miles, runs strong, no gear crunching to speak of. Guess I'm kinda happy with my mid-life crises reduction car, hee-hee. Now for some professional-level euro tuning, maybe some sway bars, and upgrading the original shocks, and finding a new home (owner) for the '77. We'll see. Cheers.

Hey everyone,

I was wondering Would the 2 litre head from a 1980 Alfetta Gt be interchangable with the head on a 1974 GTV 2000 USA model 115.01?

Thanks,

About a year ago I had to sell my Alfa Spider because of a divorce. Since then I have missed my Alfa and want to get another. I came across this GTV on AutoTrader and would like anyone's opinion on what you see. I'm not very familiar with the GTV except that I have always loved the looks. It seems that this one has had an engine swap and there is some sort of custom expansion tank or overflow tank in the engine bay. Any help on this car would be greatly appreciated. I am always amazed at the Alfa knowlege on this bullentin board. Here's the link to the car:

Cars for Sale: 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV-6 Coupe in Hiawatha, IA 52233: Coupe Details - 271002697 - AutoTrader.com

The car is located in Hiawatha, IA and I'm wondering if there is anyone in or near Hiawatha that would consider checking this out for me. I live in Port St. Lucie, Florida about 30 miles north of West Palm Beach, so getting to Iowa to check it myself is pretty much out of the question at this point. I have asked the dealer to photograph more of the car and e-mail it to me, and they will do so in the next few days.

I'd also like to know if are any other bulletin board readers close to Port St. Lucie Florida? If so, do you know of any trusted mechanics for Alfa's. I found out since I sold my spider that the shop that used to work on it is no longer in business.

Thanks for all your help.

Hey guys,

I have an 85 GTV6 and have wanted to get rid of the bumpers for some time. Got the front off and now have been considering some options. I am thinking of making a front that uses the original front lip, and adds on a low profile bumper with built in indicator lights. I took off the front bumper and left the lip in place. It looks like you can simply add in a 2.5" high bumper to make up the distance to the grill. It will most likely be about 2 inches thick so it looks good. (maybe slightly different sizes, i am going by memory) I get back home on wednesday and will start building up a wood piece to see how it looks. From that point I will try to make a mold and run some fiberglass ones. (I work in yacht repair so should be pretty easy) I would do the whole front lip and bumper as one piece with some screw holes to match the original holes that held on the front lip.

Anyone else interested in something like this? Suggestions on how to make it better?

I used to think all the worlds problems could be solved with more beer and bhp

My headlights and parking lights do not come on my sport sedan when I turn the switch on the column. Directionals work when turned on as do the brake lights. I replaced all the fuses just to make sure but still no luck. Where do I look? I was thinking of the switch itself, but think its unlikely. If its a ground problem where do I look. I remember that the headlights started to act funny a while back, just cutting out and then coming on by themselves. Any ideas? FYI, the electrics have been modified over the years and there are many things that have been bypassed and done half assed.

Any ideas?
GTV6 on a tow dolly?

I need to transport a GTV6 a long distance and am leaning towards renting a trailer, but I see manual transmission cars flat towed or on dollies all the time.

One of the concerns I have about the trailer is that the GTV6 has been lowered and I'm afraid I'll have a difficult time getting it loaded (the car runs and drives, but no plates or insurance for a trip across multiple state lines). I have a full size pickup, so I'm not worried about the weight of the trailer and car, but I would save a few bucks with a dolly too.

So, will I burn up the transmission if I put the car on a dolly? Anybody pulled one long distances?

Thanks!

Spark Plugs-Preferred choices for both Spica 4 cylinder AND bosch V6 engines

i have a few questions regarding spark plugs in both the 2.0 spica alfetta and also the 2.5 V6. now first for what i do know: i know these engines are different and probably have different needs. i also know golden lodge are the preferred plugs for alfas. i think i know that lodge aren't in business anymore? and here are my questions:

1) are lodge available currently in the U.S. for a fair price?
2) what is a decent alternative? i've heard NGK, beru, champion, bosch, etc. and please give exact model as each brand has so many different lines that saying bosch doesn't really tell us anything.
3) i met a guy at the french & italian car show who said not to use golden lodge in a spica car. he swore by NGK and i think he said just the basic single electrode version. he said to use the lodge in the V6 cars or any car with bosch injection but not in a spica car. any truth to this?
4) and if you have a preferred online supplier for your choice, please let me know as autozone/pep boys/kragen are getting so pathetic in their choices for this kind of stuff.

thanks

Rescue Project Thread - NJ Alfetta Sedan

Hello all,

I have been looking for a project for a few months. The purpose was to get a sick alfetta or milano to 1) try and fix it and get that experience, and 2) to part it out for my own spares if I can't get it running. If I do get it running I may sell it as is or strip the trim for spares and sell/donate it to a "LeMons" race team if there is any interest.

Found this alfetta from the for sale ads here. Since another BB member wanted the wheels off this one the net price dropped to the point of "gotta do it" so off to NJ I went. The seller was the son on the original owner, and lives about 5 minutes from Englewood Cliffs, NJ, former home of AR here in the States. Really nice guy and knows my plans for the car.

I will document my progress on this thread. As of now, I am not selling the car or parts from it but will post when/if that comes to pass.

Now for the description and pictures. 79 sport sedan, one family ownership, NJ car so RUSTY. All trim is present and other than rust the body is not dented. Came with 5 alloy wheels and 5 steel wheels. Car has not been on the road in 15 years. Been inside since the early 90's but the rust already got to it. Clutch has no feel at all - flapping around. Hood release in op. Interior is leather - fronts are split. Sunroof. Pictures attached - as it came - not even washed yet (I think the 15 years worth of dust/dirt/grime is what is holding the car together!). Some type of rodent nest in the trunk. I'm off to search for how to open the hood then a wash down.
