Is there a good proven sealant that you guys have used with success in case there is some corrosion around the liner seating surface and the block? I saw a drop of coolant around my #2 liner over the weekend when I had to oil pan off to invistigate a lower end noise on my 1750. The engine was rebuilt some 10 years ago, but never started until a week ago. I am hoping that the seals just dried up and got hard or something.

I smear some high temperature silicone sealant around the base of my liners before inserting them into the block. Of course, I install the O rings too, since they position the liners at the correct height.

Yes, the silicone will make the liners more difficult to remove down the line. No, Orazio Satta didn't see a need for silicone. Yes, I'm careful not to goop so much silicone on the liners that it oozes out somewhere. I agree, silicone is nasty stuff, never to be used on flat gasketed surfaces. Any other objections?
