Reinstalling pistons/rings into liners

A bit at a loss as how to title this.

Situation: A 1750 engine with 7K miles on it ended up with a very fried main bearing (that's not the issue here). A good spare 1750 block is ready to go. The idea is to take the good parts from the original engine and install in the spare block. The pistons/rods on the original block are currently still in the liners in the block. The liners will not budge so the pistons/rods will have to be removed. One plan is that after the original liners are installed in the spare block to just put the pistons/rods back in the liners as is.

What is your thought on this plan?

Biba

i would 'hone' the cyls. to get a nice cross hatching effect, this will help seal the old rings to the new(ish) cly.

I'm a bit confused. In the spare block, will you install the liners matching the old pistions/rings, assuming you can get them out of the block after the pistons are removed, or using the different set of liners already in the spare bock? If it's the latter, at the very least, you'll want to have them honed and checked for spec before use, and if they're OK, I'd spend the $100 for a new set of rings, too.
