Help. clacking noice from my bottom end

Hi Everyone,
I got a clacking noice from my motor. 74 gtv 2l. Alter verifing the head it sems that it may be something with the crank or connectors. Either way my question is, since i am not a mechanic in any way, what should I consider if i am having the engine pulled out of the car( besides just fixing the clacking problem). Should i install new pistons? oversized? type of gaskets? any advice or tricks of the trade would be apppreciated, I figure since I am paying to have the engine taken out of the car, I might as well do something to get more power?

Try using the search function and reading. This is a very well documented subject.
