1470cc Nord Engine?
Not sure where the best place to post this one is, but seeing it is engine related:
Today I was up at the (sort of) local racetrack doing some testing with my mate on his Historic Alfa race car. I ran into an old friend who I had lost touch with, for who I had rebuild a couple of Alfa engines. He told me that he knows of a Giulietta Sprint (left hand drive) that could be for sale. He said that that it was imported from the US.
It has spare engine with a unique capacity of 1470cc. Alledgedly it was a special capacity (possibly factory) for competition in a particular class in the US.
Could be crappola, but I said I would see if I could find out anything I could.
Anyone heard of such a thing?

Don't know about a factory option but in the '60's when I was working on Alfa's, one of the auto parts suppliers that I used offered a "Big Bore" kit for the 1300 & 1600 engines. The kit cost the same as the standard bore kits so that's what I used for rebuilds. Could be they used one of those for a competition rebuild.

Back in the 60's there was a "1500 cc kit" for the 1300's. I have one if anybody needs some small weights. Heavy cast Jahns (krap) pistons & all.

1500 kits were made in Italy by Mondial and sold in the late 50's mid 60's by several vendors here in the States. You can find their ads in old R&T's,
and Sports Car Illustrated (which became Car and Driver). The kits included speical liners which required boring the block. If this car has such a kit, the block will no longer accept standard 1300 cc liners.

Thanks for the info,
I would say that this is what it was. I was not aware of any factory 1500 cc Nord engine fitted as standard to any car. And it is a weird sort of capacity to have a class limit.
I would say that the kit was developed before the factory released the 1600 engine. The fact that it has this sort of mod done to the car, it could well have other mods...
I will pass on the information.

No 1500s came from the factory; mods only. Yes, 1500 is an odd size, given that the class size is 1600, but the first MGAs, and last MGTFs, were 1500, as were late Triumph Spitfires and others Midgets too, right?
I was just reading about the 1500 kit in old SCIs and R&Ts over the weekend.
