Piston/Liner clearances

I'm working on an unknown (to me) 1750 motor and expected to replace the pistons/liners. But I was surprised to find that they actually looked in good shape including the honing hatching. When I measured the pistons and liners I found that there was a clearance gap of .0003 in. I know that in domestic motors the acceptable max is .0005". But the Alfa specs say .0019" max.

Can I use these or am I kidding myself? They sure do look like they have few hours as do the bushings.

Bet you meant .003. In which case re-ring them & use them. They will be fine..

Yea, .003"... Never was good with those decimal points.

Dumb question: I'm going to use the stock size rings, right?

I would suggest calling HASTINGS to Dawn the Tech engineer 269-945-2491 ext 1359. she will need ring thickness,, width, and type.
Since ring gap increases .003 with every .001 bore increase I suggest getting rings to fit & they will be less expensive. The 3 piece oil rings will not need to be gapped but if the others do she can tell you the spec.
You will want there "3 piece oil rings" and she will probably suggest running the same design top 2 rings with the 2nd ring upside down as it is a scraper. But tell her your use and they have many designs and sizes. You might visit their website for a look first.
