The dietrich they are refering to is the man that was driving the "famous" enzo that was racing against an SLR mclaren on the street, wrecked the enzo so hard the engine was removed. All over the news....
Correct me if I am mistaken though.

Thanks, Oldschooleuros, I didn't know anything about that.

Actually, I'm disapointed, I was hoping to find myself the owner of an Enzo I had forgotten about. I would have settled for the Mclaren, even.

If that other Dietrich had been driving a Chevy or a Ford, I guess Douglas would have responded instead of you.

I'm glad you're on the board. Take your time saving your money and get a really good Alfa that makes you happy. It's only natural to want one RIGHT NOW, but it pays to be patient.

Thanks man, I defintly want one bad. I have spent lots of time driving other cars, but I know the spider is truly what I have always wanted. In a few weeks I should have one. It will be a happy day for me.

I just test drove an 83 for another member yesterday and it's has rekindle my desire for a spider. I was kind of under whelmed by 89 I recently drove but the 83 was much more lively so who knows

well, I do this for a living of course, and carburated cars only here, but removing an engine, with all the tricks there are is about an hour. Installation is about two hours on a Nord. Say a Giulia , or Bertone.
There are a lot of tricks. I always leave the tranny in.
I have a key 13 with a very long handle for the topside bellhouse nuts for instance.
I leave the manifolds on. I remove the tacho cable when I' m pulling the engine and have it halfway out. I also remove the horns. Don't forget to undo the stabiliser bar.
I put a jack under the bellhouse to cant the engine when I have the engine mounts loosened up.
I remove the lowest starter motor bolt from under the car, same for manifold nuts.
Another tip is to cut a line in the radiator shroud. This is always a mother. Cut the line all the way at the bottom. This way, when you unscrew the shroud's for nuts, you can just remove it in situ, and leave the fan etc in place. easy as pie. The plastic can be bent easily enough and it sure saves time.
On a racecar Giulia I once removed AND installed a tranny in half an hour.
I do have to say it was with the car on jacks, I had to lie under it, it was out in the open at Spa a few years back. And it was soaking with rain, I had no sheet, nothing, so I guess that helped.That was my fastest time ever..
I did get really wet and it wasn't just sweat.

Back in the good old days, OK, the nineties, my very capable assistant and I would have a Milano engine hanging from the skyhook in about two hours.
I know this only because I needed a 3.0 engine for a customer one fine day - told my wife her Milano was due for an oilchange. Instead we snatched her 3.0 and replaced it with a 2.5 and got the car back to her by 5pm.
I had a lot of 'splaining' to do, and she still does not trust me to be alone with her car.
Even her Durango!

I've removed an engine from a Ford Ka in less than a second, there was a 6in dip in the highway, hit it doing 80mph, engine comes flying out of the engine bay, transmision and all, motor mounts, gone. Good thing it was a rental.
