Well, I am sick but the credit would need to go to Mike Valant whose pictures on his website was the basis for mine. http://engr.smu.edu/rcam/cpm3v/2lreb...lrebuild23.htm

My purpose was really about realizing a practical reality: I've got several engines to rebuild and I don't trust myself to get everything right the first time. I just dreaded the idea of finding a small, inaccessible oil leak and then either dragging the engine out of a freshly painted bay or swear every time I open the hood and see oil splattered all over my freshly painted bay. I must admit, it was pretty cool when we fired it up yesterday. This is a non-rebuilt engine so I felt comfortable running it for a while. The next one is a completely rebuilt 1750 and I’ll need to limit the time on the stand so as not to violate break in protocol.

Anyway, it was a fun little side project while I waited on some parts for the cars. But now it’s back to business!

Here are a couple more shots of the engine stand ( in Alfa red of course) with and without the engine in case anyone wants to replicate what I have done. I want to add a tray for the gas tank and tidy up the wiring a bit. Also, I'll be adding some intake tubing to get potential backfires away from the dashboard area. (Radiator removed for clarity.)

I added the channels on the bottom as forklift pockets since I'm fortunate enough to have one...

ps: Mack the dog is an Australian Cattle dog or Blue Heeler. We have some Aussie board members who no doubt need no such explanation... Since I’ve had him we’ve had no trouble with bovine…

I hate to admit it but I've been thinking... I've got an old 50hp electric motor in the back of the shop...

Just what I need to do - spend more time building tools to help build my Alfa while my Alfa sits around waiting to get built...

Wow, that's a great Alfa engine test stand.....and it can double as an Alfa tachometer test stand, too.
