rod bearing caps

I'm trying to inspect the connecting rod bearings. Brass flakes, ugh! But I can't pull the rod bearing cap off. Any tricks?
Thanks

Small plastic or brass (NOT STEEL) hammer. Tap the bolts back through after nut removal, use a brass punch if necessary. Once the bolts clear the cap it, (the cap) should fall off. If it does not, some gentle tapping on the side of the bolt holes will free it. If that does not work, sometimes a spun bearing can really wedge things together (brass flakes). If this is the case AND the cap is BLUE (heat), the rod is likely history and more vigorous whacks will be the only solution.
