Richard, I've ready many of your posts on cams, and would deffinately like to get some ideas of what's possible in the future for my engine, seeing as it has the configurable EFI. Does this create any unique camshaft requirements or possibilities that SPICA-injected cars can't take advantage of?

Of course there is a lot it can be capable of RIGHT NOW you won`t get, but I`d feel more comfortable with you directing your questions to the vendor`s you bought your equipment from

So, Richard, how does one go about buying a set of cams from you? Your website doesn't make that very clear. I'd be interested in talking to you before changing out my carbs and exhaust header.

How To purchase RJR cams
As from the Website (Scuderiagiallo.com) you send a email to
Alfar7@aol.com.
I will be happy to send you the profiles for general use cams.
I have special use profile lobes for Turbos, Normales, Bosch Injected with out modifications and Twin Spark that are not on the for public consumption list as well.
I have to know what you are doing with what motor to properly match cams.

Have you considered porting the head and manifolds to get the most out of your new cams? JimK's book walks you right through it. If you are installing new valve guides might also consider trimming them while you're in there.

Well, I hadn't. I think that is something I might do in another year, but this winter's project is building a guest cottage on the property. Changing the carbs is a no-brainer because the one's that came on the engine are mis-matched. The previous owners could never get them running right, and had no idea why. So I'm trying to anticipate what I might want in the carb set-up now, to prepare for what is coming down the pike.
But you raise a question: In regards to changing cams and exhaust header, what would be the impact of a ported head versus one that has not been ported?
I'm learning as I go with this stuff. I've never dug into engine modifications before. But catalogs like IAP and Centerline do make it seem easy--just slap on some new parts and you're good to go.

Well all I can say is that I have two Alfas, a 77 stock spider with 455 gears and the 73 GTV with 410 gears and all the mods I listed in an eairler post. The biggest difference is on the top end, the GTV will happily go to 7k (don't do that much) and you can feel the power really kick in around 2400 but then from 5 on up it just keeps comming on.
This is not really a fair comparison since the two cars have different rear end ratios and I have no idea how different the GTV would be if I hadn't ported the head but seeing the pile of aluminum dust I ended up with and looking at the ports and how much bigger they are and the straighter shot they take it's gotta be doing something.
Good luck with your project, sounds like fun!

If you are going to do head work, or get head work done, then you should notch the follower bores so that you are not restricted to 11mm lift. I have had two sets of C&B 11mm cams. They are a nice improvement on 10548 Euro cams but they are not in the same class as the Richard Jemison cams that I have now. Take a good look at Richard's website RJR Racing specializes in Alfa Romeo Automobiles before you decide on cams.

install valve springs in head?? just stuff a lot of 1/4" rope into spark plug hole, on the cly that you are doing .rotate that piston up, this will hold the valves firmly in place..

I'm going to try to snag a set of DCOE 45's to replace my DCOE 40's just in case I decide to go big on the head at some point. Since I have two mismatched DCOE 40's right now, it looks like it'll be easier to find a set of carbs rather than a match to either the DCOE2 or the DCOE 151 that's on the car.

Comparison with the series 4 intake cam
Hi
On a related note, can anyone tell me how the lift and profile on the intake cam of the series 4 Spider compares to those mentioned earlier in the thread.
Many thanks
Simon
