Crankshaft Pulley Removal

Do I have to remove the crankshaft pulley in order to take the crank out of the block? I see there is a removal piece behind the pulley but I assume I will have to remove the pulley to change the seal, right?

Thanks,
Dom

1. Yes you have to remove the pulley to change the seal.
2. Yes you have to remove the pulley to remove the crank. You have to remove the pulley to remove the front cover to remove the crank. To remove the front cover you have to remove the head and the pan.

I just realized you may be talking about a V6 instead of a 4, but I believe this still holds true.

Oh crud, sorry, I took it for granted that I meant the V6..

OK, I will have to take it off. Any one know what size it is?

Nut on V6 crank pulley is 41 mm. You will need to hold crank so you do not turn engine counter clockwise as seen from the front (if engine is still assembled - don't know since you also talk about taking crank out of block). Torque spec is high, you'll need impact gun or loooong breaker bar. Yes, if you want to change front crank seal, then crank pulley needs to be removed.

I already have the oil pans off so the next step was the crankshaft.

Now to find the 41mm impact socket!
