What do you mean calculate? On 164 the computer does all the work.

Alpa? You still around?

Porsche 944S/944S2 with M2.1 using a 60-2 timing wheel uses the following formula to calculate ignition advance. The 23 is a offset which allows negative ignition advance numbers.

= 0.75º X (HEX2DEC(hex#)-23)

My question is does this apply to just Porsche? The Alfa could be calibrated differently.

Hi,

It's the same except the constant (23) could be different.

Thanks Alpa. Any estimate at what it might be? Does Alfa spec the ignition advance at idle like Porsche does? Anyone?

Ok, I'll have a look at 1.6/1.8 carb engines. Then you could compare them with 1.6/1.8 injection tables. Twin Spark (the 2L TS) is a different design, must require less advance (like 3.6 against 3.2).

I had the parentheses wrong. I was corrected on another list. Either formula below works.

=0.75º X [HEX2DEC(hex#) -30] :Offset as a decimal number
=0.75º X (HEX2DEC(hex#) - 22.5º :Offset in degrees
