Oil pans and oil pumps for TS conversion
I swapped out the oil pan on the twinspark that I'm going to put into my GTjr over the weekend just to do a trial fit into the car. (Need to figure out how the intake will fit, where the airflow meter will go, etc.)
In the process some questions popped up:
1) There is one bolt location on the front left corner of the engine that seems like it can't be fastened. The 105 oil pan is designed to have a bolt come down from the flange on the block, but the TS has the oil filter there and is designed to have a bolt come up from below. How have others dealt with this, I wonder? Can the pan seal properly without this? Do I need to go in with a bolt inside the pan, by taking off the lower pan?
2) Obviously, the oil pump pickup for the TS won't fit the 105 pan. Is a 105 oil pump interchangeable, and does it require any modification to the front cover of the TS?
3) And just out of curiosity, has anyone out there done a dry sump set up for this conversion?
Thanks in advance to those that have done this before and can shed some light on this!
PS, I was surprised to discover that the oil gallery in the TS is coated with some kind of flat-black surface coating. Is that standard, and if so, when did they start doing that? It's wierd working on a the modern 4 cylinder engine -- so many things are just like the old 2 liters but then other things are different.
