Turbo or not to turbo...

I have sourced either N.A. twin spark or Euro Turbo motors. The turbo sounds promising but since it is only an 1800 it only makes 10 more HP then the 2000 N.A. when both are stock. I do know that Turbos can be easily modded to put out far more then stock with just a boost controler and fuel enrichment.

Not knowing much about the Alfa turbo 75 what should I go with? I am building a 69 GTV street car that will see the odd track day and TSD event. Another idea would be to turbo a 2000 T.S.. Well withing my fabrication abilities, but is it worth it?

Ideas?

Alex

Well, what kind of car would you like?

The turbo engine is definetly faster then the Hp rating suggests, high torque from 2000rpm and up, definetly faster then either a N/A 2000 or TS.
The downside is that it is a very different thing to drive compared to a N/A engine, not at all as responsive and more difficult to drive on the edge. But if you learn how to do it you will be seriously fast.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know what the internal differences are on the turbo. I will get a used one and need to freshen it up. Who can get parts to the US?

Are there a lot of hop up parts for the turbo? Can I use a N.A. intake and convert to a front mount intercooler? Pictures of the motor would help me as well.

Thanks

There's a place in Europe selling a comprehensive 75Turbo kit for various power levels. Check out:http: www.speedshop.ch/alfa.htm

Dale, to my knowledge there is no commercial turbo kit available for the TS. Many owners have gone it their own way. One guy that might help you is Mats Strandberg (posting somewhere in this forum).

I have been slowly researching a Turbo System for my 83' Spider 2000. Does anybody know about the compatability of the 75 Turbo parts with the 2.0L? The engines on the outside look identical.. I was wondering because I would love to transplant those turbo pieces into my LHD 83' Spider. I am on a mission to make a very fast street car/track car.

The manifold/turbo is a direct fit (you might wanna port-match it though) but any internal stuff is basically the same dimensions as the 1750/1.8. You need an oil return line into the lower part of the block or sump and oil delivery (t-pipe on oil pressure sender works fine), water to and from the turbo.
Cams are different but don't waste time trying to find them as they are the suckiest part ever to leave the Alfa plant... At least the intake, the exhaust is pretty much a regular exhaust cam advanced a bunch.
Save yourself another headache by NOT using the std injection, it is the intake cams biggest competitor in the "suckiest part ever" comp.

Turbo

I was guessing they were compatable, but I couldnt say for sure since I've never seen a 75 Turbo in person...Thanks for the info!
Speaking of Camshafts and the fuel management, any suggestions? My research over the internet has not gone to well in this department. Thanks again!
