Supercharging book is complete, Finally!

My supercharging book is done, and the first batch is hot off the presses. It's taken over two years to write, but I think it was worth it. Anyway, it's 117 pages, it's full color and it has a lot of pictures and diagrams. Every secret of my kit is revealed, and a whole lot more. The book is $35 and can be found on my site here: Supercharger Kit

Chris, thanks for removing the spam, I never even saw it because I was at the Chicago convention.

Duk, We don't have a downloadable version. It's in print only. Sorry.

No prob Greg.
I was curious to see/buy the book but I couldn't get the URL to load. Maybe an alternative URL? Amazon maybe?

Greg, I've ordered a copy. Least I could do after all your help and advice!

I'm getting close to completion on my project now....just need to locate/fit/plumb the charge cooler pre-rad, pump, fan and swirl pot then I've pretty much run out of excuses.

Best-guess calculations are looking like roughly 8psi of boost.....wish me luck!!

Regards

Chris

Thumbs up

Got my book a few days ago. Reading it is great fun for gearhead types and it does the Alfa community proud! I have a few questions but let me get my thoughts together before I ask (so that they come out semi-intelligent ).

Book arrived yesterday - quick service to the UK!

Only just started reading, but I'm enjoying the historical/technical background stuff.

...keen to get to water/methanol injection section as I've decided to add this to my setup. I was getting paranoid about using stock CR and getting more boost than anticipated, so thought it was worth the cost of putting it in now, rather than later. Worst-case is I don't actually need it to avoid detonation so it's free to use for more power. Simple enough for me to set it up so I can choose which map I'll be running if that's the case (ECU has 3 maps, switchable on the fly) - I can have a map to use with 50/50 injection and one without...maybe I can also put a fluid level switch in the reservoir and arrange it so it automatically reverts to a safe map when the 50/50 runs out.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for buying my book. If your injection/ignition system can change maps on the fly, it would be cool to put a pressure switch just before the water injection nozzle, and have the system go to the aggressive map whenever it senses pressure (i.e. whenever the water/meth is on). This would give a very high level of safety because it would only run aggressive timing if the system is spraying.

Dang, I should have covered that in my book....well, I sort of did, I talked about the use of a pressure switch for warning lights and stuff, so it's sort of the same thing.

Greg

Hi Greg,

I reached the section on water injection last night and it's given me plenty to think about. The ECU I'm using is pretty smart and very flexible. Todays 'thought in the shower' was to use the PWM boost control output (which has it's own 3D map) to drive the water injection pump, so it maintains correct water/fuel ratio throughout. This is only a thought at the moment - I need to find out if the pump will tolerate it first.

I've opted for a basic kit that uses a 150psi Shurflo pump - I bought this before reading your book..so hope I haven't bought a lemon!

Anyone thinking about supercharging should definately add Greg's book to their reference library. I have the A.G. Bell book as well, but I think Greg's is far more use for the DIYer.

Chris,

Thanks for your kind words. I put a lot of effort into this book, and I really hope it helps the do it yourself supercharging crowd out there.

Regarding the Shurflo pump, if it's not black, it's not rated for methanol. The silver pumps have different seals that will fail if exposed to methanol.

Cheers Greg, just saying it as I see it. I consider I'm a suitable reader for it given what I'm up to, and I found it very informative and full of gems. Can't ask for better than that.

There are one or two details I would have done differently on my project had I read your book sooner, but none are show-stopers I don't think (hope!). Pipework from blower to cooler is a little larger than ideal for one. Blower of course is a bit big, but you already warned me about that one!

Thanks for the heads-up on the pump. Fortunately, it's explicitly listed as being compatible with Methanol and it's painted black. It's a Devils kit so should be fine, if one believes the sales patter!
