Wanna send a picture to us? This wasn't the original plan but I sure wouldn't mind if this thread became a variation on the other very popular one. How about, "Post a pic of your TS", as the subtitle of this thread?

I've been unable to locate them in my 'files' but I have photos of a 2600 with a TS. I'll try to find them.

The engine has only done 60K miles from new so no rebuild required. The power is more than sufficient, its the smooth torque that makes the delivery. Power is for paper torque for the road !
There are pictures already on here under engine conversions from me C Mct.
I mounted the ECU in the passenger footwell. The motor is awesome, it makes the car a real hooligan!

Crash, actually glad to hear you didn't have to rebuild the TS. I'm not planning on rebuilding mine before installing, though PO had sent out the injectors for cleaning and testing.

I'll go look for your photos after posting this.

I misspoke regarding the car I mentioned as being a 2600. It's apparently a 2000 (and still is). I took the photos at last year's French/Italian Meet in Woodley Park, Van Nuys, CA.

You'll note in the second photo there are also some interesting Alfa's in the background.

The info re dizzy vs mapped ignition has been very helpful, as I'm currently trying to determine the best ignition timing for my GT Jr/TS (75 head with Webers). Will mapped ignition work with carbs? I get pre-ignition "ping" if I advance the distributor timing from "stock" at idle.

I encountered the same thing several years ago when I built my 2L with 10:4 Borgos. The Marelliplex was a great ignition, but my motor had preignition under just about any load. I was reading one of David Vizard's tuning books where he mentioned that motors tend to have a 2400rpm preignition period, caused by an out of control flame front. That, of course, is exactly what MSD6A ignitions were/are designed to combat. So, I installed a 6A (plugged right into the Marelliplex/FM amplifier) and immediately found that the pinging was dramatically reduced. Only on very hot, very humid days could I inuduce slight pinging---and then only if I intentonally lugged the car down in 4th or 5th gear.

Modern crank fired, programmable ignitions are an improvement over the Marelliplex/MSD approach. There are a number of options for doing this with your Alfa. The easiest by far is simply to order Max's (Alfaholics) mapped ignition kit. He's done all the grunt work for you.

While there are a number of companies (MSD, Electromotive, etc.) who'll sell you programmable igniton parts, there is a particularly elegant solution that's lots cheaper. Do a search on the forum for "EDIS". Bcal (Brett) in OZ has a 2L running Megaequirt fi which drives a Ford EDIS crank fired programmable ignition. You can visit a PickNPull junk yard and scrounge a complete EDIS ignition from a 90's Escort for about $20-30 bucks. If you want to run carbs. there's a stand alone controller call "Megajolt" that will drive the EDIS and give you complete programmability. If you do a little digging, you'll find part numbers for EDIS systems which have multifiring capability built in.

In my opinion, whether or not you choose to retain the dizzy is less important than being able to map the ignition for your particular car. That's light years ahead of a MarelliPlex/MSD setup.

I just bridge connections 86 to 87 on the red fuel quality relay to tell the motronic it has 95 octane rather than 97. I have fitted a toggle switch on the center console so I can switch whilst driving.
Injectors: Clean them with WD40 assemble the rail & then frig the fuel relay to run the pump. recirculate the fuel for 30mins or so back to tank. My engine had been stood for a couple of years, yet no injector problems with this method.

Now, Crash. Don't you think this is just a bit unfair? I mean, really now, where's the mystery, the romance, the adventure in . . . a toggle switch? That's sort of like fitting out the Golden Hind with diesel power and a GPS.

HI guys: I'd love to get my hands on some Twin Spark stuff, specifically engines and transaxles but am having a bugger of a time getting finding anything. I spoke to one guy in Melbourne (a wrecker) who said he had a Twin Spark that he was going to part out and he wanted $2500 just for the gearbox!!?? WTF?? I've e-mailed a number of places in England and Germany, no luck. They either had no interest or nothing available at the time. I'm even willing to take a punt and will import in bulk (say a couple of engines and three or four transaxles to get things going) if it'll keep the price reasonable or make it easier for the vendor. I'm pretty confident the demand is there if I could just find the stuff. Don't mean to hjack the thread but if anyone has any tips I'd be very grateful...feel free to e-mail me privately.

Thanks for the help, Rick.

TS parts

For TS parts, check with Gabriele Davide, at dual-barrel@italian-carburetors.info.

I sure wish city/state/country was mandatory info. But using my amazing powers of deductive reasoning I'm surmising that Ozalfaracer is either from Kansas (USA) or Australia. Going out on a limb here, I'm guessing the latter.

Since OZ (south) actually received the (model) 75 (unlike us poor folk in America) I'd think there would be a bunch of TS engines and transmissions about.

Failing that, crashmctavish, why don't you become an exporter of these parts? Doubling your cost of 90 pounds to say 180 pounds + shipping per engine, bet you could become the TS exporter czar throughout the known world (including OZ...and Kansas).

Just a thought.

Biba

Biba69.....your intuitive powers are indeed amazing although I figured the "Oz" in Ozalfracer may have been a bit of a clue. Yes, Sydney Australia but until about 18 months ago a resident of Louisville, KY (or Loonyville, Lousyville etc. etc, take your pick.....really, a very nice place to be honest). Anyway, I was kind of hoping there'd be TS diffs and engines lying around all over the place down here but it just isn't the case. I've spoken to a number of people here who just told me to go out and buy an old TS and strip it but apparently what has happened in many instances is that people buy a TS, swap the gearbox for an open wheeler then sell the car again (I thought of that too). I just figured if someone in Holland or Italy or anywhere else knew of a wrecking yard that had a few they'd like to get rid of I could do some kind of deal. So if there's anyone else out there that knows about a pot of TS gold lying at the end of a rainbow, give us a shout. Sforza: thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try.

Ciao ya'all, Rick.

TS engines on eBay

OZAlfaracer,
Check out the pair of TS engines for sale on eBay - that's Gabriele Davide, and he sells good stuff. I've bought Weber bits and a TS head from him.

Yes I have considered setting up an export business. Im surprised you guys in the US take delivery & then strip & rebuild them. Generally speaking they are a strong motor I put mine in & then ran it thinking Ive saved myself a minimum 500 pounds if it runs OK. It does & its fine & strong.
